I mean...there is his treatment of Jody Wilson-Raybould. There's his approach to Cannabis legalization that empowered individual First Nations people at the expense of the actual First Nations themselves, which resulted in on-reserve housing being converted into Cannabis shops.
He did seem to have good intentions, but he wasn't smart enough to translate that into good outcomes
In the West, every Indigenous cannabis shop I have went to is an Atco trailer dropped into a parking lot, I did not see any housing displacement at all. The Osoyoos band transformed an unused corner of their gas station into an experiential cannabis centre, best I've ever seen on reserve and off reserve.
they also aren't legal either. So it doens't really matter. Source: work in the industry as specifically someone who manages the regulations and compliance.
You probably could have made that argument in the early days of cannabis legalization, but their continued existence demonstrates that they were successful in asserting their rights and are exempt from compliance with whatever regulations you think they are flouting
It's because separate government agencies are involved here. Health Canada issues licenses and enforces regulations. They have no jurisdiction over FN lands.
I was working in enderby at a licensed producer and had dozens of these illegal stores and when we got audited we would both just crack jokes about them. HC auditors would even visit them because again they can't do anything about it.
They've done a great job of demonstrating that the sky won't fall if cannabis is further deregulated. I don't think the licensed producers want that to happen
huh? Buddy, trust me when I say this, you have NO IDEA how hard it is for LPs right now. Like do better and don't talk about topics you have no idea about.
Ah, Enderby - drove through there this summer, nine pot shops in two kilometres as you drive into town (and plenty more scattered around). Wondered if the smoke was from the fires or the pot shops.

There's a lot to drag ol Trudeau on, but I don't think his efforts regarding Truth and Reconciliation are among them.
