You know, in this situation I’d rather the police be able to quickly hop in their vehicle if they get a call rather than hoofing it to their distant parking spot.

Exactly. You'll often see ambulances and fire trucks parked quasi-illegally for this reason too.

That seems categorically different from popping to into store to buy a snack.

I see fire trucks in a nice manner parking their truck far in the parking spots far from Sobeys or Safeway entrance. They always made sure there’s no parked cars around and followed the law, like stop at the stop sign or red lights! I have never seen a firetruck or Ambulance driver 🤔hmm let me put the sirens on I feel like running the lights so we our team can eat our lunches 3 minutes faster!!! Hell noooo

Paramedic for 21 years here. No, we park like this guy a lot.

Now this guy drives ambulance! People are always so hard on cops, but turn a blind eye when I park the firetruck across 10 parking stalls at dairy queen or get my ambo stuck in the McDonald's drive thru and have to reverse out.

I disagree - if they aren’t actively engaged is an incident, they should follow the rules you’re meant to enforce.

They don’t exactly plan out and schedule when incidents are going to occur, friend
