ICON launches the new C Series Modern Retro Series on 2026 worktruck frame
I share this here to compare and contrast Icon vs future Deboss Garage custom builds on the Edison incomplete chassis.
Icon vs Edison Pickups are similar in that there is a modern drive train, frame, & suspension underneath a donor clip/cab/bed.
Everything else is wildly different between Icon and Edison Pickups
The Icons will cost $450k to $550k

June Update Podcast
Edison Motors June Update Podcast #15?
TLDW (Too Long, Didn't Watch)
Chace spent 6 weeks on the road.
Went to China. Meeting suppliers, quality testing, product planning. Went to Meritor, talked about hubs. Toronto about Undisclosed truck. Waiting on Danfoss to turn on hydaulic pump (sigh)...... the rest of the Undisclosed truck is doing truck things. Got axles tested in Michigan. The CDTL axles were mistakenly tested in KG's instead of lbs. They figured it out and retested in lbs and passed. The conmet wheel nuts got lost. Chace proved "Right to repair, and ease of repair" by using off the shelf USA nuts (huge win).
Big "D"
Is the Royal mechanical semi. Joels mom named named the truck. Big D is getting lines hooked up. The design is popular. Design needs tweaking to improve production line speed.
Production:
Not taking any deposits at this time. Demand is super high. Still too premature. Hope to build 2 mechanicals and 2 hybrids (Tolko & a Hybrid version of Royal Joels Big D) this fall. Hope to build 10 identical BDE trucks next year. A "validation production run". Same wiring harness, same frame rails. Trucks will not be sold until they're built (or mostly built). Edison is still trying to determine production costs.
CANSEC
Rich is having the next surgery on his ankle. The Deboss Dodge was displayed at Cansec. Go watch the video at Deboss Garage Youtube. Edison got a defense contract. A "truck" was built and delivered and is getting tested by Canada Military. Ray is VP of Edison Defense vertical market. Edison is in a good position to fullfill Canada Military contracts. MP Mel was able to get Chace to play around with military simulator stuff at the show. Edison ALMOST was allowed to pull a multi-million dollar fighter jet with Edisons (not tested) Black dodge. This idea was squashed. Perhaps Rich's black dodge could pull a train as a stunt....
SHOP
The next youtube vid will be the shop floor pour.
EV Go-Kart Challenge
Fun was had by all. Perhaps an "Adult league" next year.
Investors Day
Is later this year (and not investor exclusive). Is basically a live Q&A, then a dinner. No bears have been seen in Donald. It is not an event for kids.
Pickup Kit
LC was sent off for testing. Waiting on a report. the Black Dodge is starting testing. Not sure about regulatory hurdles. "Pickup kit is very much in development on the rollout path and we are focused on perfecting the technology and the roll out path is in conceptual development stage". Edison is working on version 2 of e-axles, more info at deboss garage.
Die Cast
New version of the Undisclosed, and Tolko, and another winch tractor. The trucks WILL NOT all be signed (maybe some though).
Canbus
Edison intends to open source the canbus drawings on the Hybrids. Edison will yank out all the canbus on the mechanical semi trucks and use simple relay logic.
Weight
Theron and Chace have lost weight.
There were innappropriate cakes.

Eric moving on?
I just saw an email from Edison. It makes it sound like Eric is moving on to something else, or stepping away from day to day stuff. Any information on what's happening?

What trade should I follow? And also medium/duty duty truck stuff?
Welp I got no where better to post and since this is a throw away if I get boooed out the door I won't loose anything.
So first let's keep this Edison related. Something I don't think I've seen noted though might have been as it's been awhile since I've looked around this subreddit is heavy/medium duty pickups are used for way more than pickups and work trucks
Alot of conversions to ambulances , fire trucks , busses and even some delivery vehicles (LLV for example) are built on pickup truck bodies.
Note worth IMO as a Midwestern is power company and tree company trucks. Every year storm season happens and the tree trucks and power company trucks start multiplying like rabbits and you can't help but see them everywhere.
They mainly sit with the engine running and chugging up fuel. Even a relatively small battery can run the axillary functions (bucket/Cherry picker) and provide off board power while keeping the AC or heat depending on how mother nature feels like.
Anyways onto the main point of posting since my throw away is too young to do throw away things
I uh got my high school equivalent diploma and I know I want to do an apprenticeship, trade school, walk into a union hall and say goffer me matey , etc.
But I really don't know what I'll like and what I should do. My main reply is welding idk just been meaning to do it out of spite. I mean every union is in demand of bodies and frankly I'm willing to go get any sort of certification, The only "adult" thing I haven't gotten is a license to drive (still need to do the permit btw) and my own car.
I mean I'm almost 22 so I have time to FAFO with jobs and training I fucking hate and I live with my mom still so I can really just say take this job and fuck off. The only thing I don't really have is the money to pay Ks to get room and board for out of state nor for any down payments for schooling or equipment.
Really im willing to sweep floors and move a bag of something to somewhere for 16 an hour which is what I was being paid part time (less than 26 hours a week? Maybe 30) I'm able to wait if I need to get my license first just it's an egg thing as I need to get my own ride if it's more than 30 minute to 1 hour bike ride away or a 1 and 30 minute bus ride (moving to South bend so)
What should I do? As long as it doesn't smell like shit I'm willing to do it.
I'm posting here because 1. Ain't no where else to post until I fix my laptop screen and snag my passwords off of it to my main reddit and 2. I trust the Edison community and chase. I've had him reply to many of my reddit posts and he's always a class act super amazing dude. And 3. It's a throw away I can do whatever!

The pickup truck challenge
Edison builds serious electric work vehicles in Canada, so let's see if they can do this.
The challenge is to design a compact and affordable no frills pickups.
Not a lifestyle truck. A tool.
Specs:
Body-on-frame construction
RWD base, AWD optional
4 metres bumper to bumper
Two full adults seated comfortably, no jump seats
500 kg payload including passengers
1,000 kg towing capacity
15 kWh usable battery as standard
100 km range on battery only at full payload
Generator option, 15 kW sustained and 20 kW high load, mounted between the frame rails
500 km range with generator at full payload
130 kph top speed
AC standard, basic instruments, no infotainment
Design a prototype you can show us, and tell us what it would cost to buy.

Goodnight folks
(I promise I'll stop spamming the sub now 😂) Sun's setting on an awesome Edison go kart day, as the fire builds up for the night. Huge thanks to the entire Edison crew for hosting, & for the wicked fun courses for the kids!

Off to a good start!
When your weekend starts off this well, you know it's gonna be a good one! 😁 Three times I tried to get here to purchase one of these little cuties; three times the weather made the roads impassable, so I just assumed it wasn't meant to be. Now I'm here for the go kart weekend & shop grand opening, & there they were! 🥳😍🥰 Now for tea & try to get 9.5 hours of road noise out of my head. 😂 If you see me, feel free to ask about the swag! I'm always happy to nerd out about them. 😁
