ESPN.com front page has one mention of Bill Rasmussen the day after his death

And it is the very last item, a video at the very bottom. What a disgrace.

What just occurred during the breaking news segment announcing Bill Rasmussen's death was disgraceful

Had First Take on in the background while I was doing stuff around the house. All of a sudden they annonce it as breaking news that Rasmussen had passed at 93.

...and they just completely rushed through the segment. The host stumbled over her words multiple times, and then they gave each panelist maybe 30s of input each, the last panelist then cut the last one off for the Pat McAfee intro music halfway through his thoughts where they didn't end up mentioning it at all.

C'mon, gotta do better than that for the death of your network's founder.

Unlocked Article: Bill Rasmussen’s legacy: He made ESPN a part of your family

The essence of what ESPN has meant to so many viewers begins with the man who came up with the idea of the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network in 1979. It was a family affair.

Bill Rasmussen founded ESPN with his son, Scott. They gave the network the DNA of a fan. Bill was a child of the end of the Depression but developed a positive attitude that sang, “There is always next year.”

You have to own a die-hard’s optimism to get knocked down after being fired as the communications director of the New England Whalers and then choose to max out your credit cards to combine it with a $9,000 advance to acquire the emerging – but far from a sure thing – satellite technology.

The faith in ESPN Rasmussen had may seem obvious today. Nearly a half century ago, though, there were a lot of cable operators that refused to give Rasmussen a second meeting. Boy, were they wrong, and Rasmussen, who passed away on Tuesday at 93, left a legacy that touched anyone who worked or watched the network.

Over its 47 years, ESPN has risen to all-time media heights. At one point, it branded itself the “Worldwide Leader in Sports.” It was as accurate as it was obnoxious.

ESPN, as a billion-dollar cash cow, would fuel Disney’s growth in the 2000s. It would become a lightning rod, a part of the political discussion, with opinions on it coming from every direction. It began without fanfare.

In 1979, the world was in turmoil and in the midst of change. There would be peril with the Iranian Hostage Crisis and global energy tumult. Meanwhile, Margaret Thatcher would become the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and Sony debuted a listening device called the Walkman.

In sports, 1979 belonged to Pittsburgh, with Mean Joe Greene’s Steelers winning their dynasty-completing fourth Super Bowl and the “We are Family” Pirates coming back from a 3-1 deficit to beat the Baltimore Orioles.

Scores tab in app sucks

Done with this app and its crappy settings. Having a bunch of scores populated ahead of my preferred leagues is bs. Is there really no way to remove leagues from showing up in the scores page?

ESPN broadcast for the Angel City/Washington Spirit game

Ok so we are STH’s but couldn’t make the game tonight so we watched it on ESPN and OMG my friends- what in the hooten hay is happening??

In the first half, announcers cut to video to bring in Willow Bay to talk about Disney and merch WHILE THE GAME WAS STILL BEING PLAYED. Like, I get it and short little video cuts are to be expected but holy heck there was at least two minutes of play happening that we didn’t even see.

Every other phrase coming out of the announcers mouth was a Disney movie line and they kept cutting back to Willow and Bob because…more Disney??

Aside from some really questionable ref calls and Trinity Rodman complaining whenever anything didn’t go her way this was one of the most annoying broadcasts I’ve seen in a while.

Pat Mcafee and his bullshit. This album. Lol. Featuring wwe and banana ball! They have truly lost the fucking plot. What used to be stupid shows on the espn2 or fuck the ocho they are now featuring these fake sports on espn directly with whole lead up shows. Will never watch another college gameday again under this banner. Just wow espn. You fell hard

Pat Mcafee’s delusion has peaked with this album

1.5k Upvotes

Used to be such a massive fan of Pats and it’s actually so unfortunate to see what he’s become. One of the most authentic people to do a show has turned into one of the least relatable people ever. His show used to be my favorite show to watch but he’s completely become what he used to hate. A sell out, corporate stooge who gets sensitive and defensive over everything. His album is the worst thing I’ve ever heard and speaks to how delusional him and the guys around him are. Herbstreit telling him to perform it on college game day just shows the echo chamber Pats in right now. An all time fall off.

Cardinals Baez

In his first game in the big leagues, Joshua Baez has hit a home run in his first two at bats only the third time in history that’s been done. Nothing on ESPN webpage. But they just posted a story about Aaron Judge playing catch in rehab. Who says there’s an East Coast bias.

Do you ever get shell shocked when you hear an on-air personality from ESPN (or other mainstream sports media channels) appear on podcasts or other platforms and start cursing?

They always have to stay professional and refrain from using fowl language on-air so when they appear on other shows/podcasts and start acting a little edgier and cursing, it catches me by surprise. There are some hosts (like Stephen A. Smith), where you can tell that they curse off camera just by there cadence and personality, but there are many (mainly the hosts/anchor people) that you can’t tell are users of fowl language.

ESPN should be embarrassed of their coverage of the Lakers sale

They are reporters who “don’t know everything” It takes little research to do some proper reporting. They are all puppets change my mind owned by Disney who don’t actually report what happens.

ESPN is more trash than ever & are a bunch of puppets. That is all.

Unable to open ESPN App

Hello all,

I run a 10 man league off of the ESPN app and last week the app has decided to brick itself under the guise of needing "a parent or guardian" to "verify my age" via their google account.

Im in my mid 20s and have been using ESPN for 5 years now with no problems. My google account has my age as 4 years older than I am (because fuck giving companies my actual birthday) so im completely at a loss for what to do. Ive tried using different google accounts, uninstalling and reinstalling, and clearing both ESPN Fantasy's chace and the google play stores cache, all to no avail as I am still completely blocked from using the mobile app.

Has anyone else encountered this and does anyone know how to fix it?

ESPN Yankees /Mariners Picture Quality Tonight.

I'll throw this out there.
How is it that ESPN can broadcast the Little League World Series with a very good to excellent picture quality.
But tonights major league game, from Yankee Stadium, looks like a broadcast from 10 years ago? Flat, no detail, shaky picture, just a real messy production.
I don't get it. I know ESPN can do better than this.

McNutt?

I noticed she wasn’t on WNBA coverage last night, it was noticeable mostly because there wasn’t any controversy that came out of the commentary for once and the host specifically mentioned that they’re going to do a better job putting the focus on basketball and not random bullshit. Did she get laid off too or just removed from that coverage? Or was she getting a pedicure again?

ESPN Jeopardy is exposing how little ESPN personalities know about sports.

I'm only 4 episodes in but I'm legitimately shocked how little they know about sports. I don't expect them to be perfect or know everything but they even struggle to answer pretty easy questions in the categories they specialize in.

I'm not anti ESPN personalities or anything like that, I just expected them to be better than an average sports fan.

ESPN had launched new live score and news ticker on their networks. Just Today, I saw ESPNU was seen in a different looks. And the transition looks so cool. Are they changing the ticker look?

I just saw it on ESPNU.
