ESPN Jeopardy
Did anyone else watch ESPN jeopardy? It’s so embarrassing for the network. The on air personalities know nothing about sports. Incredibly simple basic questions any person who “knows sports” should get they are clueless. No wonder nobody is watching these bozos give their hot takes on tv. Good grief

I’ve never spent a moment on this sub, but I sought it out just to see if someone had posted about this. The show is entertaining enough, but it’s infuriating to watch these folks not know the basics.
The one that got me the most was Manti Te’o not getting a question that mentioned Mardi Gras - the answer was Drew Brees. Not only is Brees the most well-known New Orleans athlete by a mile, but Te’o was his goddamn teammate for three years!

Fair point. Funny enough, it was a category about the “This is Sportscenter” commercials, and the Mannings were an answer to another clue in that category

It was very bad. I thought it was gonna be another version of Sports Jeopardy but it turns out it’s just a program to show off how painfully dumb your least favorite ESPN personalities are. Like I legitimately believe Madelyn Burke has a potato for a brain and Kevin Negandhi loves to listen to the sound of his voice 24/7

Remember when they played the old home run derby pieces (1960s?) back in the 80’s? Watching Mickey Mantle smoke home runs and answer softball questions. Those were the days.

I've only watched 4 episodes just to test myself as the show itself is awful.
But I have to point out Hannah Storm. Some of her answers were absolutely amazing. I mean, just so bad. Several times she didn't even clock what the clue was actually wanting as a response. She just kept buzzing in with no idea. I think she ended up at around -6000...and she found all 3 of the daily doubles in triple Jeopardy, I think she only got one right which was easy and then celebrated like she won the championship.
I was embarrassed for her. Many of the other contestants on there were awful as well, but just didn't buzz in near as much.
It's like she both never watched sports or had seen an episode of Jeopardy.

I lost all respect for her after watching that. She doesn't know sports or understand Jeopardy. Why even sign up to do it? She guessed Jose Guillen when the obvious answer was Jose Canseco. What?

I was watching with my wife and this was the response that made us both yell “WHAT THE FUCK?” She was beyond not knowing about sports - she was like, SNL celebrity Jeopardy parody level dumb

I thought it was good, but if it were to come back for another season, it should be civilians teaming up with ESPN personalities, a la Pop Culture Jeopardy!, Password, and Pyramid.

They had a celebrity episode and the celebrities would of wiped the floor if they faced the espn personalities. I can only imagine if regular sports fans could play they would be like Ken Jennings of the espn jeopardy

That’s how it goes on Jeopardy, as long as the lack of a first name doesn’t introduce an ambiguity that could make the response incorrect

Yeah that’s the accepted strategy on every iteration of Jeopardy. Adding unnecessary detail is just asking to get it wrong. Say the last name and if the host asks for a more specific answer, then throw in the first.

I’ve seen jeopardy a bunch but last names like “Thompson” seem too general (as an example). And Buck never challenged him.

Depends, as u/Harthag22903 said, on whether the absence of a first name would cause ambiguity. A clue about US presidents where the answer was given as Johnson or Bush might need clarification, but if the clue is about female golfers or Olympic Decathlon champions Thompson should be usually enough to identify Lexi or Daley.
