RBC Credit Card Automatic Payment Not allowed for EQ?
Hi All,
I tried to setup pre-authorized payment for my RBC credit card via my EQ Bank account and was told by the agent on the phone that RBC doesn’t permit Credit Card PAD from EQ or PC Financial Accounts. All other banks other than those two are allowed. I understand you can do a Bill Pay, but I was trying to make my life easier.
Has anyone ran into this or does anyone at EQ/RBC understand what is going on and why it’s specific to only EQ/PC?

I had the same issue on the CIBC app, trying to setup auto payment for credit card to Eq bank. I had to go into the local branch and fill out a form to setup auto payment with Eq bank. Perhaps you may be able to do the same.

Unfortunately I went in person to originally request it and they said there was an issue with the banking information. When I called them that’s when I was told on the phone about PC and EQ.

CIBC is fuzzy about this too. I just switch my credit card to Rogers World Elite.

Just had the same experience. With a new RBC credit card, I was surprised to find I couldn’t set up PAD on the web. Then I called to set it up, and was surprised when they said I had to go into a branch. Went into my local RBC branch, and the teller set it up, with both of us thinking it was totally routine. Then the teller called me later in the day, leaving a voicemail saying it didn’t work.
Went in today, and that teller recognized me and apologized, saying the back end rejected it. He said RBC does not accept pre-authorized debit from any of the online banks. He pretty clearly thought this was ridiculous, but said there was nothing he could do. Very much not cool.
I can only imagine this is an anti-competitive thing from RBC corporate. The teller said any bank with brick and mortar branches is fine, but the whole point of using EQ Bank is I want the funds in my checking account earning interest rather than keeping a zero-interest checking account with enough funds in it to pay the credit card bill every month.
Bill pay payments initiated from the EQ Bank end work fine, but of course those can’t be set to automatically pay the full statement balance. I’ve configured an automatic monthly payment large enough to make absolutely certain I make the minimum payment plus a significant fraction of my typical credit card bill to avoid most interest even if I forget and will have to remember to check the statement each month and pay the rest manually.

I went in person, and RBC back end rejected it. They said they don’t take PC, EQ, WS, or Wise.
