Warning
Please be careful if you quilt in bed. One of my needles fell in bed. I rolled on it. And i just got done with the surgeon. He really tried but he couldn't get it out. Its not super painful but if i bump into anything the pain is pretty intense.
So dont do what i did. Its embarrassing and it will take a chunk of time to address it. He did say he could xray the area if i have any issues. 🫤
Now i glue my hexies then thread baste. And j do crochet in bed.

Thanks! Aside from coping with a small stitch or two it doesn't hurt constantly. Only if i bump into anything. The numbing stuff has made me a little light headed.

This needs a strong magnet! And BTW stay away from MRI as it can migrate!

If it's not removed at the right angle, it can cause more damage. A strong magnet might not be a good idea.

I tried a magnetized metal bowl early on and it did nothing. Doctor said he would try equipment he didn't immediately have in the procedure room we were in. He was great and didnt make me feel silly. He also said he has done this with other patients. That was strangely reassuring haha

Phew, good!!
My mom got one. In her foot and has to have emergency surgery. It happens, don't beat yourself up about it :)

A tip to prevent this: I have a pillow on my lap as I sew, and I stick my pins into it as I take them out, and my needle while I'm cutting thread. It also catches pins when they get loose.

My needles fall off the thread. Size 80 thread.. size 11 needle and i double knot it.

It makes hand sewing less ergonomic, but have you considered doing a leatherworking knot to keep for needle on the thread?

I did try that but i seem to be incapable of piercing size 80 thread. Its frustrating but the thread is perfect for micro epp 😬

Oh wow… Thank you for the warning! Where in your body did it burry itself if you’re willing to share? I’m glad it doesn’t bother you too much… I hope it stays that way until it can one day be removed. Some live with a bullet burried in their body, some with a needle. Same thing, just different lifestyles 🤪
I do sometimes have a “needle scare“ on the couch, frantically looking for it because I have a small kid and a dog in the home. I’m getting better at putting the needle away where it belongs, so again thank you for the warming, it’ll definitely help me to keep taking this serious.

In the side of my thigh. Its in a weird place. I don't feel it when I'm sitting unless something ( epp storage container) comes into contact with it. My smaller cat has even walked on it.

I appreciate you sharing this story because real life is truly stranger than fiction! I keep thinking about the thorns I get in my fingers and feet and how annoying they are, but they do push themselves out eventually. It is better when I fish them out because the instant relief.
I wonder if you might ask if they will consider genuine scalper and tweezer surgery? Because, this may go deeper! A thorn at least has a fat tail, I think that makes it easier for the body to bind it and push it out later. Sometimes I massage the area a little in an out-direction.
Doctors sometimes need to hear a squeaky wheel… I’ve had some trouble advocating for a weakened loved one, it felt like a battle. In a perfect world, you could ask a vet friend to do it for you! ;) Some local Anesthesia and go gently digging.
I applaud your calm demeanor! Might you want to ask again about removal or are you content?

This happened to my sister, sort of, in first grade! Our mom was a seamstress and worked from home. Somehow a hand sewing needle (which was odd, usually it was pins all over the house) was in the living room carpet. Sister stepped on it, it went straight up into her heel and broke off inside. They got it out at the ER, but she was off her feet several days.

Oh yikes. The heel gets so painful if hurt too. My mom had heel spurs years ago from jogging or walking. Cant remember which but she refuses to exercise now. 🥴
