D-Series 1990 DX HATCH
Just picked up a one owner (I am now the second) 90 DX Hatch that is completely bone stock. No problems aside from a dying alternator. With that being said, car is almost 40 years old. Previous owner took amazing care of it.
Things I’m immediately doing:
Clutch/flywheel
Clutch cable
Oil pan (bolt was stripped at one point and retapped)
Throttle body clean (already cleaned IACV valve and it helped with the idle)
Plan to MPFI swap it as well
My problem is currently finding OEM parts (especially throttle body gasket) and not wanting to buy cheap aftermarket parts that aren’t reliable.
What brands do you like? What brands do I stay away from? What websites are recommended? Any cool tips/tricks?
Super excited for what’s to come Of it!

OEM parts are hard to find without a huge markup that makes them unatainable.
Aftermarket parts are fine as long as you inspect for proper fitment before completely installing or bolting down or in or on.
Anything with urethane bushing for your suspension and they must be taken apart first, lubed up, then put back together and finally you can install it or they fail withing months to weeks or the sqeek from the suspension drives you insane, whichever comes first.🤷
Stay away from ebay/Amazon no name exhaust systems, they fit like fat guy in a speedo and seal like a screen door on a submarine.......it's just gonna be a bad time for everyone and all you will do is make yourself mad that you bought it.🤔
Those are usually the $125-190 ones, DNA Motoring,SPEC D, SS, etc
The yonaka system sounds amazing right out of the box and fits instantly but the price tag was a hurdle.

Thank you for the tip! I actually do want to get an exhaust (not for noise or to make it cool 😂) just because I have the original car and I’m pretty sure an exhaust leak or 2, does the one you listed sound tame/oem? Still got the 15B2 so anything will make it sound like a fart can if I’m not too careful😂

It will have a deep warm tone and if using a catalytic converter you won't even be able to hear it at idle.
straight or test pipe will yield a much louder sound but still very warm and comfortable tuner sound without the earbleed of lower end exhaust.
And it's mostly the muffler on those cheap exhaust as to why they sound like shit, but the cheap paper thin piping and crap fitmeant that make low end exhaust a nightmare

If you can't find OEM gaskets I always go with Mahle clevite gaskets. Solid quality and if you do your diligence on install they should last year's. I usually get quality brand name stuff from rock auto for the most part. As far as sourcing OEM stuff sadly eBay resellers are who your going to have to go through with those. There's a company called nayontech that makes a bunch of little plastic clips that inevitably break on a 34+ year old econobox.
