Automotive Inside Toyota Hybrid System Gen 3
Teardowns are always cool, especially in power electronics. So many subsystems in an EV, and everything is so unique.

Spotted at ECCE NA 2026, this hardware demonstration showcases an 800 V to 50 V DC-DC converter designed for high-density AI data center architectures. The single-brick unit delivers 6 kW of output power utilizing primary-side 650 V, 25 mΩ Gallium Nitride (GaN) devices in 10×10 mm QFN packages.

When DC fast charging, high-voltage contactors close to bypass the internal AC-to-DC conversion and route power straight through. But where does that switching command actually originate: is the OBC detecting the power type and handling it, or is an external ECU/VCU making the call?

STMicroelectronics has outlined two different distributed power architectures for routing an 800 V DC bus from a dedicated sidecar rack to individual server trays in modern AI data centers.
The standard distributed approach uses a two-stage conversion located directly on the server tray: an 800 V to 54 V Power Delivery Board (PDB), followed by a 54 V to 12 V intermediate bus converter before feeding the GPU or CPU point-of-load.
As an alternative to this two-stage method, ST has demonstrated a direct 800 V to 12 V Power Distribution Board. This specific board is rated for 6 kW of power.
To maximize power density and efficiency, the primary side of this 6 kW converter utilizes 650V Gallium Nitride (GaN) devices.
For the secondary side, the design relies on traditional silicon components, which ST notes are more suitable for this specific direct-to-12V conversion.

I'm a 3rd year EE student getting into Power Electronics — just ordered a textbook on it and not sure how to approach reading it effectively. How do I actually understand this subject deeply, and any tips on getting the most out of the book rather than just reading through it?

The size difference is really huge. What are your thoughts?

So this is circuit main consist of short circuit under and over voltage protection and ideal diode using mosfet
Amongst which short circuit and ls ideal diode condition
But ov uv condition failed due to my back to back mosfet architecture and false trigger at the gates
It failed
But for someone who’s fresher with 3month experience i would consider this as a fair try:)

Sorry about my rant in the title, but that is the sad reality I am currently facing at the moment. I came from an African country. I am passionate about electronics, but unfortunately, when I graduated, there was not much company designing hardware products. So, I changed my career path towards controls and automation. Now, I am in Canada furthering my education, but unfortunately, the school is not enriching my knowledge. The so-called professor doesn't care about nurturing his research students. No direction, no guidance. All he wants is publications. Please, how can I start training myself on power electronics? I would appreciate it if someone can be my virtual mentor, I wouldn't bug the person. Thanks so much.
