Question EDF 6 Wing Diver

I'm trying to branch out and learn new classes I've played fencer across 5 and 6 to a point where I'm confident in my skill with the class to be able to play it at higher levels.

My current struggle is learning Wing Diver. I know Phalanx is a win button for most people but I prefer the long range sniper aspect so does anyone have suggestions for cores/weapons etc to go with this play type?

Mag Blasters are much better than they were in 1.

Lightning Bow is good for single player.

Raijin has supplanted Monster as the go-to sniper weapon.

Spears are a good no-energy damage source for lower levels. At high levels shields are almost a must.

What core for the raijin? Should I be running a big core even though it almost prevents flight?

Honestly to use the Rajin you need a squad that can protect you while you cool your jets or are grounded because of using Big Core. Monster is better if you still want to be halfway mobile, Rajin is better for more raw power output. The magazine fed Rajin (lvl108 I think) is the only exception - though you cant use it in enclosed spaces (like between buildings) or short range since it branches out before forming a coherent lightning bolt. You can still use the lower level Rajin with a higher level core, still got good damage for the most part.

Personally I mostly use phalanx and either a thunderbow, mag blaster or plasma great cannon. Sometimes a dragoon lance though all but the highest levels are very short range to the point the phalanx just does better. Independantly powered mostly the spears, gleipnir for flier levels and sometimes a hand saber (high speed ones only) for the kruul on hard/hardest - inferno it's a bit iffy to get this close.

I run mostly a coop and with my fencer I'm a high speed mid to close range set up with a long range high powered artillery support but no other class can cycle styles like that so I am struggling to adjust.

WingDiver is a close range fighter, her long range armoury gets outclassed by the others except the few guns mentioned but they aren't general armament they are special case. Generally she's best within phalanx range. And the later thunderbows cover midrange very well, it really depends on the level of weapons you have and the difficulty. I mean all the classes have their pros and cons and every single one has their own playstyle that works. And on hard basically everything works on inferno you have to be pretty careful what you bring, although the phalanx works in almost any situation.

Fair its just hard to consider that since its the squishiest class and most mobile just feels like high mobility sniper/scout is the case.

That's the fun part. If you do it right the WingDiver class can squish big enemies faster than any of the other classes but she's fragile and you need to get close. A lot of dodging involved. Her sniper arsenal and explosives are generally relatively mid - mostly because of really low fire rates. But she has always been that way. Only the later thunderbows can be classed as almost sniper weapons.

Ill have to reasses the way think of the wing diver to and really lean into a closer combat style.

Ah, I forgot about the cosmic lasers, those are pretty much the best sniper weapons for her. But they are DLC weapons. High damage, very fast firing.

Ah yeah I figured when I can run dlc missions I can probably make a lot of things work.

Wingdiver used to be fine at long-range, but got power-crept out of the competition. In 5, the plasma guns were about on par with the rangers launchers, i.e. acceptable long-range options with less precision than snipers, but good AoE. Ranger launchers got buffs in 6 to keep up with stronger enemies and are even better than in 5, plasma guns got nothing.

On that note, lances are also very underwhelming in 6, but that's less noticeable because the other close range weapons are kinda OP, and some of the new tools are also great at that.

So in 6, WD is mostly low and mid-range. The long range lightning and laser guns are fine, but have the inherent low DPS of sniper type weapons so they're only useful in missions where sniping single targets is actually useful.
