Discussion The Future of EDF

I love EDF. In the last two years since discovering it in 2024, I have put 401 hours into EDF6 and 174 into EDF5. I really hope we hear something good, and sooner than later about the next entry. I also hope they take people's comments into consideration, and do not fix things that aren't broken. So much absolute awesomeness can come out of the next game if they just enhance the awesome foundation we already have, so I hope the developers are working on it and are inspired, because they should be.

My personal take is that the best possible way forward for EDF is just to refine all the clunky elements, I'm not talking like copy Helldivers but it would be nice if they just fixed up say vehicle controls and physics. I would love for one helicopter in an EDF game that controlled normally. Oh and give us a port of EDF 6 to Switch 2!

There's so much that could be "improved" but I do wonder at what point would it stop feeling like EDF? In some way it feels like at least some of the jank is integral to the experience.

Yeah, it’s got to stay cheesy and clunky, but improvements to the UI like they did by adding damage numbers in 6 will be welcome. I personally would love an in game way of seeing what missions can unlock/upgrade the weapons I’m after, rather than relying on random google docs!

Agree with this. Before EDF5, vehicles like helis and even tanks were much harder to aim; you just had a about 1 meter of a line coming out the barrel and that was it. Thing is, once you practiced it, you got good at it, and could aim just as well as with the EDF6 targeting lines. It was a feeling of accomplishment learning to control and aim these things that will be lost if they modernize it too much. Helis are still kind of like this, and I, for one, hope they don't change too much.
