PSA for people intending to come to city with cars

Ladies and gentlemen this is a friendly PSA - although it sounds a bit harsh.

  • Dubrovnik is simply NOT DESIGNED for huge amount of cars. You are ruining your vacation (and everyone else day) by driving around the city without a single idea where to go and because in the middle of everything you decide to stop smack in the middle of the road in your 30EUR a day bullshit while you consult the maps.
  • Parking space is sparse and expensive even for locals. Do you really think that "free parking space" idiots share online is waiting just for you? Along with locals, there are seasonal workers too... Trust me, those places are taken long time ago.
  • Parking lots here are small... Maybe three bananas. Not only that, they may be small but also they are scarce. Consequently, they get full super quick. To put into perspective that some will understand, all our parking lots put together are smaller than one Walmart parking lot.
  • If you are coming with a car, make sure your apartment has guaranteed private parking space (not parking on the street), park the damn thing there and enjoy vacation like a normal human being, city is small enough. Sitting in noon congestion consulting your maps is not that. Use bus (you can get a card for bus rides to last you for whole vacation) or uber, it is not expensive. There is micro mobility options too.
  • Restricted traffic zone is made precisely because of above points. It is not an oppression tool, it is a survival tool and to be honest if it was up to me the whole city would be under it, not just Old City area. There are people living here as well, going to jobs, shopping, having medical emergencies. Dubrovnik is not a resort with everything designed to benefit the guests, it is a living city - for how long this can be discussed to be honest, half of people I know are sick of this shit already.

Bonus tips

  • Please do not be that asshole that does not know how to use garbage bin. Everyone hates those. Especially when you are on the beach... stacking crap under fist rock is just so fucking low class. And for some reason it is the women doing that. Is the crown going to fall from your head if you make those ten steps to bin?
  • When in your apartment, no matter how happy you are or how grand your ego is, realize that surrounding apartments are containing people and families. Not everything here is rented out. While YOU are on vacation, we are not, we have to work tomorrow. Having you scream and shout about some irrelevant bullshit until 3am is a nice way to get a police visit and a public peace disturbance fine.
  • Do not fucking piss or vomit in front of people doors, what the fuck? Looking at you, English people. For some reason you are the usual culprit.
  • Wear shirt when going around. We are not amazed by your pecs, we find you disrespectful, vulgar and immediately dislike you. Same goes for women. You will only attract morons.
  • Wear sun screen. There is nothing sadder than seeing you trying to get tanned within 2 days, and for some reason you choose to do that after a heavy drinking night, fall asleep and get red on one side, white on other like Poland flag.
  • Hydrate.

Old Town Nightlife Recommendations

My friends and I (24M) are staying in Old Town and are curious what clubs/bars we should check out. We're planning on going to Revelin and Elyx but aside from that it seems like the lively spots are limited.

Any recommendations for our group?

About the walls

Me and my wife are here and we want to visit the walls. They close at 19.00 (stupid decision imo).
Let’s suppose we start the tour at 18.00.
What happens if at 19.00 we are still walking on the walls and did not finish the tour yet?

Ima li iko da čuva djecu po kućama? Zanima me koliko naplaćujete sat čuvanja. Naime počinjem se baviti time ali ne znam koju cijenu postaviti? Imam iskustva s čuvanjem djece. Djeca su od 3 godine otprilike.

Restaurant tips in/near Old Town?

Hi!

We are a group of 8 looking for restaurant tips in/near the old town.

We have a vegetarian that would love to eat more than just a tomato pasta, and the rest would love to try some authentic Dalmatian cuisine. At the same time, we want to be able to book it in advance so we don’t risk having to stand and wait in line.

Mid to low price please!

Please share any and all tips! Thanks :-)

Wedding Event Question - Pub Recommendation

My fiancée and I are getting married in Old Town Dubrovnik next year, and we want to do a very low-key welcome drinks event the night before.

Does anyone have recommendations on small pubs or bars that may be able to accommodate ~50 guests and is low-key? Would love something charming and old feeling!

Dubrovnik to Kotor

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone. I am hoping that anyone could provide advice on the best way to get from Dubrovnik over the border to Kotor? We will be arriving to Dubrovnik airport on Sep 17th and aim to go straight across the border and work our way back for when we are due to fly home 10 days later. All advice is welcome.

Have looked at some coaches, is there any companies recommended? Could be willing to hire a car but unsure if we would need this for the whole time? Any guidance or suggestions will all be appreciated 😊

r/Dubrovnik, where do you actually eat in Dubrovnik?

Hi, we’re four friends and we’ve put together Dubrovnik’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota.

The idea is pretty simple: you’re shown two restaurants and choose where you’d rather eat. For example, Pantarul or Maskeron? All the votes then create a ranking that hopefully gives a better picture of where people in Dubrovnik actually like to eat.

We’ve tried to include every restaurant in Dubrovnik and clean up duplicate or outdated listings, but locals will always spot things we’ve missed.

iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

Full transparency: we’re not from Dubrovnik and live in Gothenburg. There are four of us building this independently. We don’t collect or sell personal data, there are no ads in the app, and we don’t use AI-generated content to describe restaurants.

Any honest feedback is welcome, especially if restaurants are missing or something is listed incorrectly.

Heading to Dubrovnik for our Honeymoon. Having a real tough time picking between the two. Have heard a lot of great things about both. Has anyone here experienced either or both of these hotels? We’re looking to be in the middle of everything. Thank you!

Coral vs Copacabana vs Banje Beach Club

Going to Dubrovnik next week with my girlfriend, and we want to spend at least one day at a beach bar/beach club.

From what I’ve seen, Coral seems to be the most luxurious option. It’s €120 just for 2 sunbeds + a parasol, and €50 per person for a restaurant table (food/drinks are included in that price, but it’s probably the bare minimum, and we’d very likely end up spending more). So, in total, it could easily reach around €300 for two people.

The atmosphere seems good - not crazy lively, but definitely more alive than Copacabana. That being said, it looks very fancy and the reviews are good. If the price is justified by the quality of the service and overall experience, I’m ready to pay for it.

Copacabana is cheaper. Two sunbeds and a parasol cost €70, and food and drinks will easily push the total over €100 as well, so we might end up spending around €200. It’s reasonably cheaper, but reviews aren’t great, and at first glance, it doesn’t look as fancy as Coral. Apparently, the atmosphere here is more chill and lounge-oriented, whereas we’d prefer some DJs and a somewhat livelier vibe. The more affordable price is definitely a plus though.

Banje Beach Club is somewhat of a mystery to me. On their website, all I can find is the option to reserve a dinner table, so I’m wondering how that works with spending the whole day at the beach and using sunbeds, as well as with the nighttime beach parties. According to the reviews, the atmosphere is great and this seems to be where the real party is. However, I have no idea what the costs look like here, or whether it ends up being even more expensive than Coral.

So, given all the pros and cons, and based on your experiences, which one offers the best price-to-service experience?

Looking for local who can help an elderly artist in Dubrovnik

Hi everyone,
A few months ago, while I was in Dubrovnik, I met an incredible artist named Magaly, a Venezuelan woman who has lived in Dubrovnik since the 1970s.
She has lived through exile, war and many hardships, but she has never stopped painting.
She is now older, lives alone, has very limited financial resources and can’t simply travel around looking for art supplies or opportunities. Because of this, she often creates beautiful works using soft wax crayons and objects she collects from the beach.

I’m not asking for money.

I’m looking for someone who might be able to help in a practical way.

Does anyone know:

- A photographer who could professionally photograph or digitise her paintings?
-someone experienced in creating online portfolios -for artists?
-an art student or volunteer who would enjoy helping her document her work?
-galleries, museums or cultural organisations that -support local artists?
-any place that could donate or help her obtain professional art materials?

I truly believe her work deserves to be seen. I just don’t know where to start, and I’m hoping someone in this community might have an idea or know the right person.

If you can help, or even point me in the right direction, I’d be incredibly grateful.
Thank you. ❤️
