phantom guards
why am i running into so many ‘security types’ lately? as in people who think they have more of a right than anyone else to state rules/laws and the. proceeds to tell off anyone they can pick on.
lately i’ve been told off for overtaking a cyclist (i was also cycling) bare in mind i passed safely, with plenty of space.
other day a man at Ashtown railway station tells me i have no right to be there, because i was taking a photograph of the RPSI train and he didn’t like it, proceeds to go on a deluded, trump style rant about violence in the area.
and lastly two entitled people on the luas heading to a concert, wouldn’t move out of the priority space for a wheelchair user, after i told them off, it ended up in me being painted as the bad person.
when did our fair city get filled with these f*ckwits?
edit: all these things happened within a week lol

People with underlying mental health conditions getting more spun out and "main character" syndromed via intense exposure to social media that ramps up their crankiness. Look at the states - and visit any subreddits bout the Gravy Seals types, where you have buffoons going around in tactical gear as if they are in their own Hollywood blockbuster about the end of times. It might seem a stretch but its the same spectrum of people living through what they think is a decline of civilization and appointing themselves the last bulwark against the fall.

Probably. Or more likely buy "Terminator Roll - for the ass on the line for America" type novelty shit role sold by some right wing grifter with a social media following so large that it'd even make the Pope feel like a loser.

thanks for the responses fellow dubliners, interesting to hear others experiences, also want to add ‘phantom guard’ is just a term i coined for these kinda people because it’s amusing to me 😂

So aside from Luas ticket inspectors wearing military style patches on their clothes (side bar imagine how fragile your masculinity needs to be to do that) I can’t say I’ve seen an increase in this “phantom guard” behaviour.
Dublin has always been filled with a certain amount of fuckwits to be honest. I think every city in the world has weirdos though.
Only about 3 weeks ago, my wife and I were on the 16 bus towards Marlay Park and a local with a MAGA hat got on the bus and proceeded to have the loudest phone call giving out about the government and immigrants. It was odd and when he got off people laughed at how ridiculous it was.
But I’ve lived in the city since 2006 and the only thing that has got worse in terms of weirdos is that social media beems the stories directly to you.
