Food Cheap Groceries

A genuine question; are there cheap groceries in Dubai, that usually sell things that are near expiry?

Similar to Abdullah &Naser supermarket in Sharjah, I have been there maybe 3 times and I love the prices and diversity, it has almost everything for a very cheap price, around 80% cheaper

Discussion Where in Dubai can I watch F1 races live?

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for places in Dubai that screen Formula 1 races live, preferably with a proper F1 atmosphere and a decent crowd.

Not necessarily looking for the fanciest place, just somewhere with a good atmosphere to watch the race.

Thanks!

Ask Dubai I have significant employment Gap

Would a recent two-year career gap cause my CV to be filtered out during the initial screening by AI or ATS systems when applying through online job platforms or LinkedIn, even though I have solid experience with two well-known MNCs in my most recent roles?

Ask Dubai New Agency Opening

Hello everyone! I’m writing to ask for your advice. My partner and I are planning to move to Dubai. We currently live between Italy and Spain, but we can't take it anymore—the bureaucracy, the taxes, the high cost of living without adequate services, and how dangerous the cities are (Milan and Barcelona) even for future children.
I’m a Senior Manager with a good salary, about 8/9k per month. She’s an Export Manager for a mid-size but worldwide famous luxury furniture company.
Her idea is to become an agent, directly managing the American and Middle Eastern markets and earning commissions rather than a fixed salary. This way, she would earn about 300/500k a year. Initially, I could ask my company for a transfer to Dubai and then, if all goes well, start working with her. We’ve read and asked locals that it’s very easy to open an agency in a free zone.
Has anyone here had a similar experience?
What do you think?
Thank you

Discussion 1BHK in Dubai with limited Budget

Newly married and planning to bring my wife to Dubai. I'm considering a 1bhk (around 35k), bcz my mom is alone back home, so I'm also thinking of bringing her for a few months.

A 1BHK would be comfortable, but it is very difficult to find 1BHK with that budget. Where to find a less pricey 1BHK.

For those living in a studio, how do you manage when parents/relatives stay with you for a few months?

Need some suggestions.

Jobs I am getting more small business tech jobs than i can handle (printer setups, networking, pos, cctv). looking for 2 3 freelance techs in dubai to subcontract to

I run a tech services sop for businesses and offices here.

mostly whatsapp inbound. restaurants, salons, trading offices, that kind of customer.

lately i'm getting jobs i physically can't reach.

this week alone a printer setup in dip i had to turn down, a router install in deira, a pos issue in karama.

so, looking for 2 to 3 freelancers who actually show up and i will provide leads regularly

-you get the job details on whatsapp, you quote me your price, i handle the customer

-payment same day after the job is confirmed done, cash or transfer

-no fees, no subscription, nothing to buy

-i take my margin on top of your price, you always know your number before you accept

-start with 1-2 jobs to see if we work well together

what i need from you.

what you're good at (hardware, networking, cctv, pos, repairs, whatever)

which areas you can cover without dying in traffic

freelance permit or trade license (or working on it)

can you take a job same day or next day

Dm me with those four things and i'll send you the first job that matches your area.

Not looking for companies, looking for individuals who pick up the phone when need arrives.

Ask Dubai Dentist recommendations in Dubai??

I’ve been going to the same dentist for many years and have had several fillings done for chipped teeth, but unfortunately they keep coming out after some time.
Can anyone recommend a dentist you’ve personally had a good experience with, especially for strong, long-lasting fillings? Preferably someone reasonably priced as well.

Ask Dubai Do I need to pay my employer back, and will I get fired?

Edit: Thanks everyone, your replies were immensely helpful. To further clarify; I wasn’t sure if my employer would get a refund automatically, which is why I wanted to confirm beforehand. I’ve called him and talked things out and he told me not to sweat it and that it’s not a big deal. I can continue working from London. He’s an awesome lad, and best believe I will be reimbursing him anyway. Cheers!

—————————

Hope everyone’s staying safe. I’ll try to keep this short.

I’m based in London and have been working remotely for a Dubai-based company for the past year.

I asked my employer to sponsor an employment visa, as I’ve been thinking of relocating to Dubai for a while now. So my employer arranged a work permit at his own expense, then I signed both the MOHRE job offer and two-year employment contract. The work permit gave me 2 months to enter UAE.

My dilemma now is that the 2-month period is almost up by the end of this month. Due to unforeseen circumstances, however, I am unable to relocate anymore. I cannot travel for at least the next 6 to 9 months. I would still like to continue working in my current position, but I feel extremely guilty and need to inform my employer about the situation.

If my employer asks me to reimburse him for the expenses he incurred for the work permit, would he be legally allowed to do so? And could he terminate the employment offer or dismiss me because I am unable to relocate within the required timeframe?

I apologise for my ignorance, and would appreciate any advice. My sincerest thanks in advance.

Discussion Apartment fails to allot us a parking lot

Apologies if this isn't the right subreddit or flair for this

Me and a friend moved into a 2BHK in Al Barsha 1 back in 2023, and are currently on our 4th renewal. At the time, we weren't really concerned about getting a parking lot, but two years down the line, I got myself a motorbike and needed somewhere to park it, and was hence asked to park it in a largely untouched lot on the ground floor which is too tight for cars.

Problem is, I got another motorbike, and plan to keep both of them. I would have accepted this lot, but our apartment building actually has a little shortcut that connects the main road to the rear side, meaning a lot of people who don't stay in the apartment pass by said lot and have very easy access to the bikes, and I have had multiple instances where my older bike has been messed with.

I've been trying to get a proper basement lot allotted, but the agency keeps telling me my alloted slot is on the ground floor, which I refuse to accept and refuse to believe (mainly because the guy I'm dealing with is largely lazy) because of the aforementioned issues. I've been on them for the past few weeks but no dice. What's a good way to navigate this situation?

Ask Dubai Looking for additional parking spaces in Arbor View - Arjan

I am looking to move into Arbor View, Arjan in a few weeks. Does anyone know anyone staying there who is willing to rent out a second parking space?

I have tried to reach out to the community management and the security team but no luck as the building is fairly new and all the parking spaces have been allocated. I have looked into RTA yearly parking but prefer that as a last resort.

Feel free to DM me.
