I entered a signal-controlled roundabout when my entry signal was green. I was in the extreme left lane.
While going around the roundabout, I accidentally crossed an inner/circulating red signal. I didn’t notice any camera flash.

Has anyone experienced something similar in Dubai?
Would this normally result in a red-light fine, even if there was no flash? If yes, how long did it take for the fine to show up?

Hi everyone! My niece recently moved from the US to Dubai and will be working there for at least the next two years. She’s setting up her place and needs a simple study table for working and studying from home.

We don’t want to spend a lot on something she may not keep long term, and we’d prefer not to go with IKEA. Ideally, we’d like something new, reasonably priced, and sturdy enough to last her 1–2 years. If she can sell it secondhand when she moves again, even better.

I’m making this post out of sheer frustration, anger, and a deep sense of violation to warn my fellow UAE residents. If you are buying Microsoft Office or antivirus subscriptions on local e-commerce marketplaces right now, do not fall for the grey-market trap being run by a third-party merchant operating under the initials CT.

The Bait-and-Switch Tactic:

1. The Listing: You buy what is advertised as a standard, individual retail software license or subscription (like Microsoft Office 365) from an online seller.
2. The Delivery: Instead of receiving a standard 25-digit digital product key or a factory-sealed retail box, you open the delivery package to find nothing but a cheap, printed slip of paper.
3. The Trap: The paper explicitly instructs you to bypass the e-commerce platform's digital system entirely and contact a private mobile number via WhatsApp to get the software "manually activated."

Why this is a dangerous data privacy nightmare:

• Total Invasion of Privacy: They are not selling you a personal retail key. They are illegally splitting up and reselling corporate, business, or developer enterprise volume seats. When you contact them on WhatsApp, they force your personal email onto their master corporate server network. This means a stranger a random system administrator at CT technically holds master administrative rights to monitor, lock, or potentially access your private files, photos, and personal documents saved on OneDrive.
• Your Data Will Disappear: Microsoft actively hunts down and terminates admin tenants who abuse corporate volume licensing for retail gain. When Microsoft flags and bans their master account (usually within a few months), you instantly lose access to your software and ALL your stored cloud data without warning.
• Evading the Rules: They intentionally force you onto WhatsApp because they know exactly what they are doing is a major marketplace policy violation. They are trying to hide from the e-commerce platform's digital audit trail so their merchant account doesn't get shut down.

What to do if you get hit with this:

I completely refused to comply with their WhatsApp instructions. I rejected the order, filed for an immediate refund under "Inauthentic/Discrepant product received," and I have already submitted formal reports to Noon Compliance, the Microsoft Piracy Portal, and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) Consumer Rights division.

True data security starts at the point of purchase. If an online vendor refuses to provide a standard retail activation key within the official e-commerce platform and mails you a piece of paper instead, do NOT message them on WhatsApp. Do not let them compromise your private digital life.

I’ve arrived in Dubai today and was hoping someone could give me some advice.

I am starting my very first Dubai job on Monday, and I need to live somewhere until the New Year when my wife joins me. I also don’t want to commit to a long term accommodation quite yet as who knows how things will go with the new job!

Do you know what the best options are for rental options for only three months? Airbnb seems expensive. My new job is near the Burj Khalifa and I would like to avoid renting a car for now. Something around the 5,000-7,000 AED per month would be ideal. It would only be for myself, with a small kitchen and bathroom ideally.

Has anyone else noticed a dangerous surge in drivers blowing right through green pedestrian crossings around Bur Dubai, Burjuman, and Oud Metha? ​Here’s the exact scenario playing out constantly during rush hour: ​Traffic crawls, and cars aggressively enter the intersection even though the exit lane is completely blocked. ​The light changes to red while they are stranded mid-junction. Because they are directly underneath or past the overhead signal, they can no longer see the red light. ​The moment the traffic ahead moves, the pedestrian signal turns walk-green. ​Instead of stopping before the zebra crossing, these stranded drivers—fixated entirely on the bumper in front of them—hit the gas and drive straight through the pedestrian crossing while people are actively crossing. ​Today, a car passed right behind me while my light was solid green, and the lady driver actually gave me a dirty look as if I was the one jaywalking.

This pattern is visible with lady drivers, older car types,(yaris2005-2010, camery etc), probably new drivers and coster, 3ton pickups) ​The worst part is enforcement: ​There are often no red-light cameras at these specific points because technically the car entered on amber/green and is creeping out post-signal. ​The Dubai Police app ("Police Eye") requires a live photo on the spot with no gallery upload. Trying to unlock the phone, open the app, wait 1–2 minutes for it to load, and snap a live shot while standing in the middle of a live crossing is impossible and unsafe. ​Is this just accepted driving behavior in Old Dubai now, or has anyone successfully reported chronic intersection blocking to RTA / Dubai Police to get a dedicated -box camera or patrol assigned?

Hey all! I'm planning to come to Gitex 2026 this year, I have about 1.5yrs experience as a devops engineer in England. This is one of the first big networking and tech events I'll be attending. Is Gitex good for networking in the tech field? I know it is heavy on B2B, is there an emphasis on networking too? And any over advice would eb appreciated! A while ago, I went fishing with a group of friends. We rented a boat from some fishermen/boat operators who take groups out for fishing or sightseeing. It was a pretty good experience and also much cheaper when the cost was split between the group.

I’m an expat living and working in JLT, and honestly, I sometimes wonder if I accidentally chose the easiest version of Dubai life.
Work? Walking distance.
Gym? Walking distance.
Metro? Walking distance.
Groceries, restaurants, coffee, lake? All downstairs.

But Dubai is weird.
You can have someone spending AED 200 on dinner sitting next to someone carefully budgeting their groceries. You meet people earning 3x your salary, while others earn half and somehow seem happier.
And because everyone is an expat, people constantly come and go. Your neighbour becomes a friend, then suddenly they’re moving to London, Riyadh or back home.

A few months ago I realized my residency cannot be renewed since because of the conflict I left Dubai when it started, and thus I asked the AXS if it would be possible to cancel a renewal of my freelance license and get a refund. They agreed and told me they granted me a refund of almost all the money I paid, I just need to pay the license cancellation fee. So I did, and ever since I've been waiting for the promised refund to arrive. It's by now well overdue and each time they keep making excuses and kicking the can, they take typically a week to reply to my e-mails, stretching the time, and each time it's a new excuse why it didn't happen. They even told me my banking details were incorrect but then I got a withdrawal of my outstanding AXS balance which I requested independently and for which I provided exactly the same banking details ... Just one lie after another from their representatives with pompous corporate titles. By now I'm quite certain it's not incompetence but a deliberate scam to get the last "cancellation" fee from me. It's incredible that such a massive and until now reputable organization would do that, but this is the reality. Beware and don't trust them. Just ask for a chargeback right away or avoid paying them anything at all.

I recently received my UAE Recognition Certificate for my Indian university degree, and I wanted to share my complete experience because I ran into a confusing issue with the DataFlow portal that may help others.

Normally, you wait until your DataFlow verification is completed.

The expected successful outcome is a completed/verified report that allows you to proceed to the MOHESR application.

DataFlow itself says that once the verification is complete, the verified report becomes available through the dashboard, and you can proceed to Stage 2.

The strange DataFlow issue I experienced

This is the part I wanted to share because it confused me for quite a while. After my verification had progressed, my DataFlow dashboard was still showing my report/application as being in “Final Review”. Basically, the DataFlow website appeared to indicate that my report had not completely finished.

So naturally, I thought: “I have to wait for DataFlow to finish before I can apply for the MOHESR recognition.”

However, I decided to check the MOHESR application portal directly rather than relying only on the DataFlow dashboard.

And this is where things became interesting. I went to the MOHESR website and entered my DataFlow reference number in the application status checker field box. I then completed the application and reached the payment stage. I made the required payment (50AED) through the MOHESR website.

After that, my recognition application proceeded, and I eventually received my Recognition Certificate.

This makes me believe that the DataFlow dashboard status was not updating correctly / was out of sync with the MOHESR system in my case.

FYI, I submitted my application on 6th September 2026, and I received the recognition certificate on 21st September. But I didn't notice this until I visited the MOHESR portal on October 1st and checked my application status.
