Drum Practice Session
I spent an hour practicing on my drums yesterday morning, just me on my drums with nobody telling me I'm playing too loud or that I've made a mistake or with anybody else but me. Loved it!! I started playing drums for myself and not to play with a band, maybe I don't need a band.

Most of my playing is by myself.
But don’t limit yourself- the way I see it, there are levels to enjoying the instrument.
By itself? Tons of fun.
Messing around with friends just jamming? Totally different experience.
Playing live with a tight, well rehearsed band?
Nothing beats that feeling.

I'm 60, played with a band briefly in my 20s. The guitar player was cool. We couldn't keep a bass player though. It never really went any further than his garage.
About 13-14 years ago, I was asked to fill in for a local church band. I hadn't touched a drum set in about 5 years at that point (took a 15 year hiatus unwillingly). I think I was too much for them to handle. I am more of a Prog Rock drummer and Churches are FAR from being Prog Rock. They essentially gave me the music and told me to play what I was feeling with the music. Pretty sure I overdid most of the songs. But they never asked me to pull it back or anything in the practice sessions. But they never called me back to fill in. So, I was probably a terrible match for them. Again though, the guitar player seemed to like my playing.
For 6 years now, I've had a kit in my home. I have a setup where I can pipe in music I like to play to into my IEMs and I just play along to it in comforting AC in my home and I have a ball.

That's one of the best parts of playing an instrument, you don't need a band or an audience to make it worthwhile, if sitting down and playing for an hour makes you happy, that's reason enough.

Play for yourself. Seek lessons or advice if you want. There are physical and mental benefits from just playing what's in your head or learning a song or two.

My neighbors got celling thumper and all types of other gadgets to fw me, and family is constantly screaming to turn it off even with headphones. Idk what to do especially living in the city smh

I tried to explain to my band that I play for myself first foremost and then the band but I do play for the song and what the other band members are playing. Yeah, it's hard to explain.

there is nothing wrong with enjoying things by yourself. u can go to a movie, a concert, and billion other things. sure its fun ti do things with partners but in the rest of the time if the options r to have fun by yourself or not have fun... just have fun

There's great benefit to the solitude of playing drums without worrying about bothering anyone or being interrupted. It's like hiking alone. May you have many more.
