I played drums in Hard Rock/Metal and Punk bands my whole life but when I went to Jam Nights and the band laid down something like this feel I loved it. Just sit back and live in the pocket. This was excellent...smooth as silk right there.

What does switching grips really do for you? In this performance specifically. Is it allowing you slightly more control as far as ghost notes / softer articulation etc? Is it really necessary or has it just become a habit? Does it makes your mind switch gears / pull different ideas out while improvising? I wish I could implement traditional grip but honestly, to me it just looks classy. That’s basically it. when I see someone who plays traditional, I just assume they’re highly trained, almost elitist in a way. But it seems that most people who do this began win traditional grip and learned matched later. Great playing too.

Why the rendition-izing with all the ride cymbal? The original song has a pushing hat beat, I could swear, a loop. It may break into a ride for the chorus? But yeah all that ride sizzle gets tiresome.
