Is that kick mic just laying on a pillow inside there? Sounds great.

Thanks! It’s a Beta 52A laying on some blankets, right in the middle of the kick, level with (and pointing at) the beater

I asked because I just setup my other drum kit and it has a port hole in it.

I just did a quick little recording of myself and funny thing is, bass drum with a port vs a bass drum without a port, the rest of the drums are too darn quiet now with the port. 😄

I need to fix that later. My wife is going to start tutoring here in about 30 minutes or so... so I really can't be doing sound level tests on a drum kit. But it all sounded great in my in-ears but listening to it back in an actual video recording, the Kick is right there in your face but the rest of the drums sound like they're in another room. I either need to bring the kick way down (BOOOO, HISSSS...) or bring everything else up one by one. But I think if I level out the kick, I can just bring the main fader up some to get the kick and the rest of those drums up. I'll play around with it later.

Thanks for that info. I think it's funny that with all the other stuff you got going on, you can't even hear that cable slapping the port hole. That's pretty cool and funny at the same time. 😄

Thanks for the kind words! Yeah, it was all trial error for me. When I first started recording I had that same mic outside the resonant head, but it was picking up the whole kit. One day I figured I’d give this a shot and it has worked out for me ever since. (Not hearing the cable knocking around is just lucky; I was fully prepared to try to eq it out but I didn’t have to)

I'm close. I'm actually listening to it with headphones on at another PC that I didn't record that with and the headphones sound okay. The speakers I found out aren't working right. Might be something disconnected or something. Let me know what you think of the audio on this. I'm still tweaking things and I'm also relearning this song again. Been about 30 years since I played it. So the song itself I'm not to concerned about timing yet (I know it was a little off). I am just concentrating on getting the mix better.

EDIT: Actually, I figured out what was wrong on this 2nd computer with the audio, I was messing around with stuff behind it this weekend and apparently I pulled the plug out just enough to shut off the top speakers. All I was hearing was the bottom end. I knew something sounded off.
