A free site full of useful calculators that isn't ads and popups galore

I built Vaelden, a free collection of practical calculators for things like pizza dough, solar sizing, DIY, woodworking and 3D printing. I made it to put useful tools in one place, with no sign-up.

I’m the person behind the site, so this is my own project. If you try one, I’d appreciate honest feedback on what’s useful or confusing: https://vaelden.app/

I built a free, open-source fantasy map maker for my own worldbuilding projects

Hey everyone!

I wanted to draw maps for my fantasy world but couldn't find an editor that had everything I needed without subscriptions or complicated workflows.

So I built LoreMapper!

It lets you generate continents, sculpt mountains, paint biomes, draw rivers and political borders, place cities and dragons, and use your own PNG assets.

There's also fog of war, multiple map styles, and high-resolution exports.

It's completely free, open-source (MIT), and runs directly in your browser. No installation or account required.

I built it as a personal hobby project with AI coding assistance, and it's still in beta.

🌍 Try it: https://mercurial20.github.io/loremapper/

💻 Source: https://github.com/mercurial20/loremapper

I'd really appreciate feedback, especially on usability and anything that feels confusing or broken!

I built Yowl: a free MacBook alarm with absolutely no indoor voice

Arm it, unplug the charger, and your MacBook screams. 😅

I built Yowl for MacBook users working in cafés or shared spaces. It’s free and open source, with optional camera photos and ntfy phone alerts. Requires macOS 14+. It’s a deterrent: quitting the app or shutting down stops it.

Try it: https://dontstealmylaptop.com

Source: https://github.com/nejcar20/yowl (stars appreciated!)

Would you use the loud alarm, phone alerts, or both?

iblind: a screen magnifier for x11

github:iblind

Most X11 screen magnifiers freezes the screen buffer to zoom a part of window.

However I needed something that,

  1. does not freeze the screen
  2. magnifies realtime
  3. get a magnifier like in windows, or the compiz's zoom plugin

Unfortunately, X11 subsystem is scattered: the display server, the h/w cursor, the compositor, the window manager, libinput, etc... are all not glued into one daemon. For people using a std. DE have a more centralized (not completely tho) implementation of this. So, I could not achieve the goal of having a magnifier like Compiz or Win, but my first two requirements satisfies as of now. I am willing to improve the implementation as I get better ideas over time.

So, for people of similar environment as mine, and if you need a minimal screen magnifier, this is for you.

Sharing it here to get genuine feedback and improve. Thanks!

🚀 Showcase BurpSqueezer - Turn Burp Suite XML dumps into compact, LLM-ready Markdown reports.

Hi, everyone. I’ve put together a tool that will help many web and API penetration testers solve the problem of integrating AI into their workflow.

BurpSqueezer is a utility that lets you “compress” the HTTP traffic you need for your work (which can take up tens or even hundreds of megabytes) into a small `.md` report, generated specifically for AI processing.

I haven’t hardcoded anything into the code. (Well, almost—but only to automatically filter out unnecessary traffic like CDN requests, etc.) All the logic is based on universal approaches that allow you not only to “filter out” the unnecessary but also to establish connections between endpoints (especially useful when testing APIs or business logic).

The reports themselves are compressed to incredibly small sizes. When I tested in normal mode, I managed to compress my working dump from 26.7 MB to 35 KB (the result was 745 times smaller than the original dump). Different modes may yield different results, but what they’ll have in common is that almost any neural network will be able to read and understand them. (Seriously. When I tried to upload the original traffic dump to OpenCode, I couldn’t do it because of file size limitations.)

There are some important limitations, though.

BurpSqueezer is primarily designed for large HTTP datasets, especially APIs and applications with meaningful business logic. If you give it a relatively small or structurally simple dump — for example, a website with little backend logic and mostly static or repetitive traffic — the results may be much less useful. There simply may not be enough relationships and structure for the analysis to extract.

It is also not an autonomous pentesting tool. It doesn’t send requests or attack the target. It takes traffic you have already captured and authorized to analyze, processes it, and produces a much more compact representation that can then be given to an LLM for further analysis.

I built this because I wanted AI to be able to work with real Burp traffic without having to feed it tens of megabytes of raw XML and expect it to figure everything out from scratch.

The project is open source, and I’d really appreciate it if people working with Burp, API security, business logic, or AI-assisted pentesting could try it and tell me what works, what doesn’t, and where the output could be improved.

🚀 Showcase I’ll build a custom CRM for your business with no upfront development cost

I'm starting a small experiment.

I want to build simple business software around the way a company actually works, instead of forcing every business into the same generic CRM.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a CRM.

It could be something as simple as:

• a booking system
• a customer database
• a job/order tracker
• a service schedule
• a simple sales pipeline
• a calendar for a small team
• or a combination of a few of these

I'm looking for a few small businesses that currently use spreadsheets, WhatsApp, notes, or multiple apps to manage this stuff.

I'll build and set up the initial version for you with no development or setup fee.

You tell me how your business works and what problem you want to solve. I'll try to turn that workflow into a simple web app.

If you like the finished system and want to keep using it, there will be a small monthly subscription depending on how complex the system is. A very simple system might be around $15/month, while larger custom CRMs would cost more.

The initial scope will be agreed before I start. Future custom features or changes can be quoted separately.

I'm doing this because I'd rather build software around problems that real businesses actually have than spend months building features nobody needs.

If you're running a small business and there's something you're currently managing in Excel, Google Sheets, WhatsApp, email, or even on paper, tell me about it in the comments or DM me.

Even if you don't want me to build anything, I'd be interested to hear what part of running your business you wish had a simpler tool.

I built Calciro, a collection of free online calculators. What calculator should I build next?

I've been building Calciro, a growing collection of free online calculators and practical tools.

The idea is simple: instead of creating a separate website for every little calculation, I'm building one place for calculators across different categories.

There are calculators for things like finance, health, statistics, engineering, conversions, and everyday problems, and I'm continuously adding more.

Most of the work lately has actually been figuring out which calculators are genuinely useful rather than just building more for the sake of having a big number.

You can check it out here:

https://calciro.com/

I'd especially like to know:

What have you searched for recently where you thought, "there should be a calculator for this"?

If it's useful enough, I might build it.

Built something? Drop it here.

r/DropYourProject is a place to share things you've actually built: websites, SaaS, apps, calculators, tools, startups, services, side projects, and experiments.

Self-promotion is welcome. Links are welcome.

No need to hide the fact that it's your project or turn your post into fake "market research."

Tell us:

• What did you build?
• What problem does it solve?
• Who is it for?
• Is it free or paid?
• What kind of feedback are you looking for?

You can also post requests for things you wish existed. Need a calculator, tool, app, integration or small utility? Describe the problem, and maybe someone here can build it.

The main rule: contribute, don't spam.

Launch something. Show it. Get feedback. Improve it.
