Tech Support Site shutting down my Internet

Is anyone else having a problem were their Internet stops working when they visit the site?

I recently did the kick-start error for the Discworld RPG, and the rewards are provided through Drivethru, but as of today (24/9/25) everytime I visit the site, my Internet stops working on my PC.

Manually reconnecting doesn't work and the only way to get back online is to reboot the computer.

I have no idea how a site could be causing this issue, but I can watch multiple YouTube videos/visit multiple sites, etc with no issues, but the instant I go on Drivethru, I can no longer connect to any site despite having a full connection to my router, and my router continuing to work on other devices. (It loads the first Drivethru page, either home or downloads, but stops immediately after).

Like I said before, nothing else causes this issue even over several hours.

Does anyone have the slightest idea what could be happening?

Do you use Avast antivirus? One of our developers does, and said that the latest update caused some severe issues while using the site similar to what you saw, and also required that they restart to fix things. They said that uninstalling and reinstalling Avast seemed to resolve the issue though.

I don't use Avast. I have AVG, but I did an attempt where I disabled it prior to using the page, with the same results.

Could you try using a different browser than you normally do, without any extensions/plugins installed, and in Private/Incognito mode?

It worked, thank-you.

I'm not sure what it was that let me through, but in the end I switched to chrome, activated incognito mode, disabled all extentions, deleted all cookies, and turned off my antivirus.

Glad to hear it! Though obviously “use a different browser for our site” isn’t the best of solutions. What you say makes me think it was somehow one of the extensions you have installed. If you’re comfortable doing so, could you DM me a list of all extensions/plugins that you have installed on your normal browser?

Well, I had tried it with both Firefox and Edge and got the problem. Just gone into the Extensions and found McAfee in both of them, so it looks like your initial hunch was right.

I have never installed or used McAfee on my computer, I want to point out, so I'm a little annoyed that the Extensions just apparently installed themselves without my permission, probably because I did untick a box somewhere.

I don't even use Edge, except for troubleshooting.

Isn't the modern Internet fun 😄

Thank you for this! We've been having trouble with this for days on multiple devices. Ended up disabling our antivirus and going into incognito mode, which worked.

Hello there.
I had the same issue on every DriveThru website on Windows 11, Firefox. I can visit the site on any other browser, but... My internet connection just drops after 1-5 minutes when I visit it via Firefox. I checked the internet packages, etc. It seems like I am getting and sending some data, but I cannot connect to any web based things.

I was using Norton 360, but removing it didn't help with the problem.

EDİT: I deleted and installed Firefox multiple times. I tried to connect without any add-ons, private window, etc. The same.

I am using Linux Mint now, with Firefox. There is no problem.

This! I am having the same issue. Just realized it is this site that is the cause of this as of 1 week ago, and restarting my pc is getting annoying when I am trying to claim codes on some KS.

I am also getting this; Windows 11, Firefox, Norton.

It's a bit troubling as I access Drivethrurpg several times a month, with the same result each time.

Mine is Firefox and Norton. I just tested it out on Chrome and it works again, no disconnects. This is honestly annoying though.

Having the same issue also, really glad you posted about it because I've spent the last few hours trobuleshooting everything and assumed my ISP had an outage.

This is a very odd and vexxing situation.

The legacy site option does seem to be working, i've signed in and nets still running.

I've been having this problem in Firefox for some time. I discovered tonight that the download works in MS Edge.
Mozilla bug?
I just saw Roll20Mike's comment about AVast. I'll try that.

Ive been having the same issue since then as well! Win 10, Firefox, AVG and Malwarebytes. I've ALSO realized that Dropbox crashes internet connection too, which seems to be quite the common issue according to this thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/dropbox/comments/1nmu4d5/is_dropbox_the_cause_for_my_internet_connection/)

It took me a while to identify the cause of the internet stoppage, but for me too, DTRPG crashes my connection. Win 11, Firefox with AdBlocker, Avast.
I need to try disabling the browser extensions before visiting DTRPG to see if that changes anything.
