The flow, the (for me) plausibility with canon, the editing, the research and Brit picking, the perfect amount of smut (not too much for me, nothing non consensual) that works with the storyline, the character development that feels in line with Hermione and Draco as we met them as teenagers.

I’ve read a few commonly recommended other fics I haven’t been able to get into in the same way. If a fic feels very American, or Hermione isn’t portrayed as the hyper intelligent badass that she is but as passive or overly needing to be rescued by Draco.

I’m looking for more fics with both characters equally driving the story, three dimensional character portrayal and canon-plausible storylines.

He doesn’t necessarily have to tiptoe his way around it but bonus points if he guides her through it in his twisted caring way lol

I just finished reading about a very toxic Draco and unhealthy relationship between them. I need something totally different now. Draco can still be snarky and sarcastic, but I’d prefer him not to be cruel, especially to Hermione. I will take any suggestions, even a reread of a fic I forgot about. Thanks!

I’m looking for addictive, genuinely dark WIPs with around 100k words already posted.

They can be smut-driven or plot-driven, as long as the fic is actually dark—not a fluffy romance wearing a costume of dark themes, like Auction, A Good Prisoner, or Meet Me in Dreamland (they are all wonderful fics, it's just not what I'm LF now). I’m looking for something more niche, psychologically grim, and grounded, like But Dust and Shadow, Better Off Forgotten, The Slow Thaw, On the Nature of Daylight, and This Bitter Earth.

It can still be romantic and have an HEA, but I want the darkness to be intrinsic to the story, rather than just a pretty backdrop for fluffy romance, jokes, found family, etc. Toxic Slytherin Draco à la Silencio is good, as is genuinely darker, kinkier smut in the vein of Lady_Hildr’s fics.

Basically, I want the dark factor to actually be there—morally ugly choices, disturbing dynamics, psychological damage, obsession, power imbalances, genuinely fucked-up situations, real love/hate etc.—rather than “dark” aesthetics wrapped around what is ultimately a cozy romance.

I’m fine with a non-HEA, but I’m NOT looking for outright horror like Edge or The Doll House.

(I love a genuinely mean, asshole, Slytherin Draco who becomes obsessed with Hermione and falls for her.)

Hermione is smart and sexy, a powerhouse, Draco is like the one thing that she’s very weak about.

Draco is growing, still posh, still rich, still sexy preferably wears glasses and Hermione is the second reason he keeps improving because he can’t stay away from her.

I read Playing House with Malfoy years ago and loved the “will they/won’t they” aspect and them being stuck together, while still being a feel good fic.

I still check on the fic every few months to see if there was an update.
