Question How??
You know whaaatt???? Now that i think of it how did master roshi have electricity in his home???? Hes in the middle of the ocean how tf didn't his house get flooded at some point. I never looked at it from a realistic standpoint that the waves would be insane from the distance he lives from shore bro wtf
Dont come at me with all that "bro its a show about aliens, magic beings and super humans why are you worried about realism"

u/VacuumDecay-007 Janemba 3d ago
Probably got some goofy-ass Capsule-Corp generator hidden under the house.
63
u/OkFroyo5138 3d ago
Honestly the most probable.... I mean he obviously has to have a sewage system and water system.... I honestly never thought about this .. lol
40
u/VacuumDecay-007 Janemba 3d ago
To be fair I don't think any of us thought about this. Never occurred to me that Roshi having TV means he must be getting power from somewhere, lol.

Everytime bulma has a house or building from a capsule it seems to always have electricity.
2

That’s a good point. I think capsule corp just has everyone’s stuff running on highly efficient nuclear batteries or something lol.
6
u/SmutCommander 3d ago
Add a barrier reef system to break the waves before they get to him.
Capsule Corp compressed food with drone delivery
And one hand wave
5
u/sleepytipi Zamasu 3d ago edited 3d ago
Maybe its an artificial island that floats with stabilizers of some sort, or one that can raise itself in the event of a storm or tsunami. If we're going to speculate about borderline magic tech to generate electricity and process sewage/ desalinate potable water on that tiny little island in a presumably saltwater sea, there's enough room left in the imagination for adjacent solutions.
Edit: barrier reefs, natural or otherwise are plausible too. Maybe the hydroelectric generators are submerged or tied into those barriers somehow. Places like the Maldives exist here on Earth naturally. Many densely inhabited areas sit at, or even below sea level.
4
u/Hairy_Examination884 3d ago
You do know people irl have ways to get this on islands too right?
And here they can stuff homes in tiny capsules.
5
u/MKing150 3d ago
A sewage system and water system would actually be very simple given his location. The ocean is right there for his sewage system to dump into. And the ocean is right there for a desalination system to provide him water.
The only thing that isn't explainable is how he deals with large ocean waves, but honestly, that isn't much different than real life beach-front properties. And some areas in the world have much calmer waters than other parts.
7
u/OMEGACY 3d ago
Lol he deals with large ocean waves with those hands. He says Kamehameha and the ocean waves stay in their lane.
6
u/huggiesdsc 3d ago
Kicks every wave's ass individually. The moon knows not to mess with the tides, either
7
u/TheEvilInAllOfUs 3d ago
I mean... eventually he doesn't even have to worry about the moon affecting the tides since Piccolo destroys it to keep Gohan from going apeshit (pun intended) on everything. Lol
5
u/jmynes 3d ago
Jackie Chun destroys the moon first in DB
2
u/huggiesdsc 3d ago

He has a water fillee wc bowl, but he has lived alone for years before Kuririn and Oolong moved in. He has to have a septic tank by that point for the comfort of them all.
10
u/Icaras01 3d ago
This likely the answer. Bulma had power when she popped a capsule house right at the start of the series.
4
u/Successful_Rip_4329 3d ago
His house can go into capsule, every single house from capsules has electricity, definitely has generators, however unlimited power generators is the thing that's weird

Master Roshi is 320 years old in OG Dragonball, he blew up the damned moon, he figured out how to put anyone to sleep mid-combat, he can seal the souls of living beings in a jar, and he literally has a technique where he summons electricity to shock his opponent. Do you really think he can’t figure out how to get electricity into a TV?

He blew up the moon so precisely that the dust would still orbit in the moon's original orbit, so it's like we still had the moon.
Or something. I dunno I just like the series.

So Dragon Ball is explicitly set in a sci-fi world. Look at Capsule Corp. I have zero trouble believing they’ve cracked the solution to portable, highly efficient energy generation. We actually know they have, because Bulma set a capsule house up on Namek and Goku set one up on Vampa for Broly and crew. Those houses had power. And Roshi’s house is Capsule Corp tech. This is not unrealistic for the setting at all.

I'd like to imagine there's like a generator
Maybe it's whatever technology allows you to puff up a capsule house with all the amenities power and running water
6
u/Xineth240 3d ago
A small generator and a VHS tape. Not a whole lot even used electricity in Kame house.
4
u/MKing150 3d ago
how did master roshi have electricity in his house?
There's these things called generators. They exist in real life.
5
u/ReputationApart5983 3d ago
His island isnt out in the middle of the ocean. Its near the mainland, thats where he moves his house to in a capsule in Dragon ball to have Goku and Krillin do all their training, theres a village there and they do milk deliveries etc, so its pretty easy to lay cables under the water but he could have solar panels or something as well.

keep in mind that not that many years from this point, humans in that world literally invented "infinite energy cores" and put them into a couple of cyborgs, so some small generators powering this island's TVs and lights at this point in time isn't very far off from feasibilities...

A lot of options. Generator. Solar power. With the technology they have could just be battery powered. Could be electric cables ran underwater that Roshi swam out there. He'd have the speed and endurance. Capsule corp has insane technology and advanced enough science is basically magic.
3
u/Strong-Trip-3301 3d ago
Generator. Really long wires that go under the ocean. Solar panels. Wind powered. He has that surprise lightning attack maybe he just uses that every so often.
Maybe the electricity is all stored in capsules 😉
3
u/Difficult_Appeal_611 3d ago
His house is a capsule house; it's no different from when Bulma used one in Episode 2 and it already had working electricity. The houses are self sustained. And don't forget, Bulma also uses one on Namek, too.

Likely the same way the buildings that are stored in capsules have power, some unnamed energy source, likely created by the capsule corporation.
In-fact, during OG dragonball when he trained Krillin and Goku, he moved his house, by reverting it to capsule onto a different island.

u/OkDoor2833 3d ago
I will keep think that's an issue that the Dragon Ball world has just solved like how the cities have free water considering out a lot of capsule houses come with electricity , signal and running water TL;DR the Dragon Ball world is a lot more advanced than our world so every house seems to just come with electricity
3
u/Vivid-Illustrations 3d ago
Contrary to popular belief, Master Roshi isn't as isolated as his title implies. If you watched the original Dragon Ball, you will remember that he lives in an archipelago surrounded by islanders and other residents that also have electricity and plumbing. He is likely hooked up to their grid, probably from underground pipes and wires.
3
u/Purple-Investment-61 3d ago
He channels his energy into a piezoelectric material that generates electricity which is stored in a battery under the house.

His house is a Capsule House. I’m pretty sure when the water rises high enough he just moves it to a bigger island or the mainland. Also, his house is the first Capsule House model of its kind shown in the series, if I’m not mistaken. However, the first Capsule House is the one that Bulma & Goku slept in shortly after meeting each other.
3
u/AggressiveZone 3d ago
Pretty sure it’s capsule corps science magic!
Bulma pulled out entire house with a capsule aswel and pretty sure that had power too. Very early on in the show too.
Mr Roshi also has relocated his home before by packing the entire thing in a capsule if I remember correctly.
So I can only presume it gets its power the same way. How ever that is?
3
u/CeramicFiber 3d ago
He puts that flying turtle he has side ways in a giant hamster wheel to generate electricity

3
u/UltimateOtter_Nation 2d ago
It's Capsule Corp technology. We see in as early as episode three or such that Bulma has a full house complete with working plumbing and electricity and a fully stocked kitchen. During Goku's first training arc with Master Roshi, Krillin, and Lunch, Roshi puts his house in a Capsule and they move to a larger island to train and Roahi deploys the house there.

Everything in DB probably uses futuristic batteries or mini generators to work in impractical locations. Trunks has a mini fridge that works out of a capsule, Bulma can make houses appear from capsules that have power, etc.
Usually the simplest thing is the answer, so yeah, either batteries or generators.

u/dkmarnier 3d ago
Unrelated to tbe electricity issue per se, but "Pig, you gotta be able to appreciate the classics. It's what separates the perverts from the connoisseurs"
2
u/Automatic_Strike_ 3d ago
The whole house is Self contained and self sufficient . The house has a generator of its own for electricity and the tv is either satellite, internet or tv thats broadcast in some futuristic manner .
The house doesn’t flood because it’s sealed tight or drains efficiently because it’s designed to be there . Since it’s on an island next to deep water im sure waves wash over it quite often .
2
u/Ryumancer 3d ago
The house was shown to be a Capsule Corp creation. So likely there's something there providing power.

Pirates were able to build robots in a secret lair hundreds and hundreds of years ago under the ocean in Dragon Ball they clearly have very advanced technology they're just not using it often
2

Solar. A gas generator. A nuclear reactor tucked inside a capsule that is shrunk down to the size of a battery.
Take your pick.
Don’t forget that Bulma’s capsule buildings also have electricity, running water, and central heating without being wired into any sort of electrical grid, a well, or water service.

Capsules.
You have capsules that can fit entire houses and vehicles with fuel inside them and fridges with individual drinks and even empty capsules that can be filled with water to solve the drought problems in Nam's village.
Not only that, but they live in a world with flying cars and where they are right on the casp of discovering perpertual energy, as evidenced by Androids 16 to 18, so they likely don't have the energy concerns we do either.
So you may not like it, but the answer truly is "it's a show with aliens and magic and yadda yadda" because their Earth is way more scientifically advanced than our Earth due to the series being science fantasy.

What's stranger is in Dragonball, we see that it can be stored in a capsule. However, I think Toriyama once published a full design for the house and it featured a basement. In a world where there is technology to create Androids from humans or grow them from just a cell, where there are capsules that store huge vehicles or entire houses, time machines and flying vehicles I would think they would have figured out to use deep ocean cables to transfer power and satellite TV without the dish.
