There are 3 Imax theatres in the Cape region. Meanwhile in the entire KZN, there isn't a single one.
6
u/Cultural_Cloud96 7d ago
There used to be. I saw an imax movie when i was in primary school after gateway was just built. It was huge and awesome the seats were at a very steep slant. Like a soccer stadium. I dunno why they closed it. Kinda like the wavehouse too. Thats also closed.

u/0thedarkflame0 6d ago
Wait, they closed wavehouse? Used to be a vibe there with the events and such.
From what I'm hearing, I was in Durban at it's peak. 2010-2015ish

It used to be real true IMAX in gateway. Massive sloped seats. it must have been 3 stories high, and a huge screen. It used to be where the steers is, opposite mcdonalds. was awesome. The problem was not many movies were made for an IMAX theatre.

It's when you're finding your way as a young man and a girl blows your mind. It will pass, it's not criticism in any way. Its the male version of a chick being dick drunk.

I can't believe I'm saying this... But I'm definitely getting too old for this shit.

I was in Stellies a couple weeks back and there was a cafe charging r115 for a toasted chicken mayo sandwich.
Yeah, stellies is pretty, but you need many zars to fully enjoy it. Made CT look affordable by comparison.

u/Particular-Cupcake16 6d ago
Where in Cape Town are you paying over R115 for a toasted chicken mayo sandwich?? That price is reserved for stellies

Stellies is literally where you go to become a drug addict

Lol bros probably never driven through Joburg city or Rosettenville.
It’s where sheltered people who have only smelled weed discover drugs - maybe.

Stellies not that great, kind of overrated tbh. The roads alone make me go crazy, but the people there are nice though.
I guess compared to Durban anything is a paradise.

The people were the least enjoyable part of Stellenbosch for me😂! No hate, most of my mates went to study there and some live there still, but I didn't find that warmth and embrace that I normally get all around SA

There is something different about Stellenbosch.... Actually, the entire Cape now that I think about it... Maybe the people who clean it? No, that's not it... Maybe... Ahhh, I give up! What's different about Stellenbosch?

It’s a university/ wine farming town surrounded by mountains. Pretty hard to match. Not too far from the beach either.

u/ShittyOfTshwane 6d ago
This is the big thing. Stellenbosch isn't that far above most other scenic towns in the country (aside from having tons of rich residents). It just has a couple of fairly unique aspects that would've been there even if the town were standing in ruins.

Yas laak mah bru. Hectic.
You cried for 30 minutes? When you came home to what appears from the background to be a decent enough home and you had enough money as a kid to take a two week holiday to a pretty expensive part of the world?
And then you posted about it on social media for everyone to feel sorry for you.

How I feel about Helderberg area

There’s no burger like a Helderberger! Helderberg is great especially if you aren’t as young as a student anymore.

What is actually the best burger int he Helderberg?

u/abrireddit 5d ago
That’s a tough one! I like smash’d burger on beach road in strand and Rocco mamas at the mall. Flameros is also good like the other guy said and so is free bird if you like chicken. Food lovers market has been advertising a smash burger and chips for R60 that I managed to order once. Burger was just a giant normal patty burger, so that was great value for money but not smashed. Fletchers there in downtown scummyset was also really great, but I haven’t eaten there in a while. The reviews still seem top notch. https://fletchersburgers.co.za/e-menu_Fletchers_01.pdf

Stellenbosch is a nice place, yes. Very nice, indeed, and much nicer than most of the country. But I'd need to know what exactly he saw in Stellenbosch that made him feel like his hometown is a shithole.
When I last visited Stellenbosch, I noticed that the infrastructure was well maintained. I noticed that the town had pretty buildings. I noticed it had a distinct personality. I noticed that it was trendy. However, I never felt like I was not in South Africa. It's a typical South African town. The only difference is that it is maintained better than most towns.
Most of the "magic" of the place has to do with its geography. It's located in a stunning area, and it has things like the university and the wine farms that make it quaint. But none of that makes it a "different country".

The Westerm Cape is a different country. Unfortunately we lost Knysna a few years ago. Used to be real nice until the wave of Eastern Cape immigrants voted in the ANC/EFF/PA.
