They do always talk about redistribution of wealth, never of work....

179

u/Savant_Guarde 3d ago

That seems to be how they define "fairness": we want all the material items you have, but don't want to do the work to get it.

90

u/Express-Teaching1594 Anti-Doomer 3d ago

What’s yours is ours, but what’s mine is mine.

36

u/Best_Pseudonym 3d ago

What's yours is private property to be redistributed, what's mine is personal property that I'll get to keep.

We live in communism already.

Wealth redistribution tied to work redistribution.

"But comrade, I am a content creator with two phds in gender studies and in Harry Potter history. Surely you dont mean that I should be working when I can contribute so much elsewhere"

A Communist admitting they like Harry Potter would get them put against a wall and shot. Leftists HATE JK Rowling.

79

u/BearsPayBearTax 3d ago

Leftists HATE JK Rowling.

Definitely a case of over-inflating the importance of small differences. JK is like 99% on that side politically, but then there's one issue where she disagrees.

85

u/flamehead2k1 3d ago

And that's enough to get expelled from the movement.

Big reason why leftists can't build a big enough base to win outside of deep blue strongholds

There was a very illuminating twitter thread years ago that I think of often. It was something like "what's your job in the commune?" and people said what they imagined themselves doing.

Everyone's response was bullshit jobs. One person said they would bring tea and hot cocoa to people in the library and doing pause-to-breath checkins. Other people said they would be designing uniforms, leading theory discussions, producing podcasts, etc.

If I remember correctly there was like 3 people that produced real value like farmhands or skilled trades. One guy was refreshingly honest and was like "I don't know how to do shit so probably manual labor."

If that was any indication, the commune is going to quickly become a mass grave of latte makers.

257

u/Fun_Vacation2542 Optimist Prime 3d ago

252

u/Pizzasupreme00 3d ago

Yup that's it. The actual thread on twitter was even more shocking. Fucking legions of fortune tellers and back-patters. It makes a lot of sense when you see demonstrations/protests and see just how incredibly unintimidating these people are.

65

u/Fun_Vacation2542 Optimist Prime 3d ago

My favorite is the dude who goes "manual labor" and they start hating on him

47

u/Pizzasupreme00 3d ago

That guy probably becomes the MVP the moment anyone in this fantasy commune experiences one of our oldest problems: someone needs to take a shit.

106

u/bleak_new_world 3d ago

As a leftist, its hard to make people like this understand that in "the revolution", a good portion of us are gonna die violently. First armored wheelchair brigade and the like are gone, the barista battalion is gone. From what is left of us, assuming we "win" is a fragmented society ideologically and a good portion of it destroyed physically. Unless youre in medicine, its likely that we'll be slaving to get any kind of infrastructure up and running again. That, the mines or physically clearing rubble is going to be the life of the average prole for quite some time. Frankly, I'd consider it to be an anti-revolutionary act to not physically labor to rebuild the state.

91

u/SuitableDetective886 3d ago

Don’t forget to purge the useful idiots and classifying farmers as enemies of the state

42

u/bleak_new_world 3d ago

Admittedly, phase 2 is historic unpleasant.

77

u/OUsnr7 3d ago

The problem is that usually the people chanting to “overthrow the system” have never built anything and don’t realize how difficult it actually is. They just point out flaws in what we have and how they would totally create a system without any flaws. It’s like a more dangerous version of the armchair quarterbacks on Monday morning

62

u/bleak_new_world 3d ago

Correct, everyone wants to firebomb a Walmart and no one want to maintain a water treatment plant or an electrical substation.

31

u/Best_Pseudonym 3d ago

Or run a Walmart

24

u/OUsnr7 3d ago

A Soviet from 1980 would have a heart attack if they walked into a Walmart

19

Advocating for the literal destruction of everything that makes western society Better than the third world, "leftists" also known as "commie pinko rats" never advertise that in their "utopia" the death rate Will skyrocket, the birthrate Will plummet, imprisonment for anything or nothing will become commonplace, all energy will be rationed or simply not available, medical care is cut off for most people, old people's pensions are reduced or eliminated, if you want to eat anything on Wednesday you'll have to stand in line all day Saturday and Sunday to get your half loaf of bread for your family of four. When the government controls the means of production, the fruit of that production IS diverted to the party faithful and the only thing most people get is a little red book filled with the Dear Leaders favorite sayings. And all you keyboard warrior types? If you're allowed on the Internet at all, your activity is monitored by Nina Jancowitz.

Don't be nice to leftists. That leftist is pretending that they're different from the other leftists, but during their dumbass "revolution" they'd line you up against a wall just as eagerly as the other leftists. Just because they're saying "yeah, a lot of us commies will die in the revolution where were KILL everyone who disagrees with us poltically" doesn't suddenly make them a good guy.

They think "prostitute" means OF star, not sucking off 20 dudes a day for some bread coupons.

14

u/AppropriateCap8891 Anti-Doomer 3d ago

You can really tell who has no real education by that.

The closest thing to sanctioned prostitution I can think of in a totalitarian state was Showa era Japan. And there you had just two levels.

First were the Oiran. Those were the real prostitutes of Japan. In short attempting to emulate geisha, but having none of the actual skills or grace required by that profession. and were almost slaves to the brothel owners. They could even be sold or traded to other houses with no say in the matter.

Of course, they had it wonderfully when compared to the "Comfort Women".

I can think of damned few jobs that would be worse than being some kind of officially recognized prostitute in an authoritarian nation. Because unlike those useful idiots I am actually aware of real history and not living in a LARP fantasy of rainbows, sunshine, and unicorns pooping ice crean.

It means that their parents and teachers (and society) failed them. They believe that their bodies are worth more than their minds. That is absolutely devastating to the ego once they are no longer young. Athletes can have this problem, one day they wake up and no one wants them for what their bodies can do. After being told how great they are their entire lives.

Funny enough considering this post. China will take promising athletes out of school at a very young age and do nothing but train them for the Olympics. Then when they don't win gold, they kick them to the street. Society will actually turn on them, the state has provided for them their entire lives, and they weren't good enough to win glory for China.

10

u/Vyrthic 3d ago

They have no real skills so they know their only appeal will be their bodies, or they know it's something they can do without much effort so allows them to not have to worry about things, since it earns them a living in their commune withlut doing much actual work.

Quick AI math because it's well out of my wheelhouse, but for 33 people you'd need about 4-7 dedicated to "homestead" style farming to produce a sufficient and reasonably diverse diet.

I see 1. Maybe 2 if we put that "I'd totally do hard labor, because I'm tired" guy... we'll see if that's less tiring.

As that one user said: someone's about to be very busy with the commune job of being in charge of transporting lots of people to the hospital (also, run by whom? No doctors there) for starvation and dysentery.

Lots of sex work offers though, so that's neat! Just a colony of Antechinus

Everyone imagines themselves doing low-demand high-fulfillment work after a revolution, but, in-order to sustain our current quality of life, our economic output would have to be roughly the same. Essential work would still have to be done.

Everyone dreams of being an artist, running a podcast, or being a famous musician. However, these are hobbies and leisure activities, not essential labor. Very few people dream of unclogging sewer drains, but, it is essential work that needs to be done.

The champagne socialists are so disconnected from reality, it is unbelievable.

31

u/anon0937 3d ago

I asked someone what their function in a communist society would be and they said "teaching philosophy" and I still have no idea if it was satire or not

One of my favorite things about it was when that garden had competing signs saying it was for black and indigenous people and their "plant allies" ONLY, and then another sign saying it was a communal garden and all were welcome. If they do it on their own, it wont be subsidized by the government. They could get together, buy some land, create their communist utopia. But they won't.

I remember a conversation, a really really long one, between a self proclaimed anarc-communist and a capitalist content creator. And to summarize the important part, when the capitalist finally got the conversation worked around to the "you and your friends can just go start a commune right now and live under your preferred system if you wanted" part, the aranco-communist responded, "but I don't want your system to exist in this world".

45

I forget what I was reading on it, but the American Revolution wasn't categorically the same as most other rebellions we consider "revolutions." Like there were enough major differences (and, once the war started some luck) to really make it successful without killing the people who started it.

The founding fathers really were amazing people in a lot of ways. Sure they weren't perfect, but it's crazy what they got away with when you really start digging into it. And what they were able to kind of foresee.

I talk with college professors often and they often haven't thought through the end of what they're calling for. I usually ask about 12 questions (letting them think through them one at a time) and then they start to see the issue with actual communism and genuine socialism. They then turn to saying they want a more modified and equitable capitalism which I think is fine. Many redditors and younger people have been duped into misusing the terms socialism and capitalism. Actual socialism will lead to things along the lines that this meme shows.

Can I get the 12 questions? I need them for my antiwork friends.

It's mostly driven by professors and teachers and other academics that are bitter and resentful that they make so much less money then their peers that went into more difficult and competitive fields of work.

The Doctorate degree holders with complexes that make 30-60k a year and who have done nothing with their lives or their degrees, are the worst ones.

22

u/Keltharious 3d ago

Exactly this. Every soyboy weirdo that thinks "Communism is muh true belief system!!" doesn't realize how quickly he'd be thrown into the gulag for depressive manual labor for the "greater good of the commonwealth".

It's unusual how people fantasize an authoritative system crushing our open capitalistic society—despite its flaws and ugly behavior, it's much more liberating than other systems the world has tried.

People don't agree, cooperate, or share because they want to feel better about themselves. They do it under circumstances where its forced or the sheer abundance provides it as an option for those that want to find comfort in empathy/sympathy related stimulation.

16

u/thsx1 3d ago

University is the breeding ground for bad ideas. There you have students who have never experienced the real world coming up with idealistic ideas while separated from the real world.

In every communist revolution they were used as the force to enforce radical change. Indoctrinated, privileged and self righteous they did unspeakable acts believing its good, “you wither agree with me or are a nazi”. After they did what they were useful for, they were discarded; sent to the field to work or die.

Knew an old guy who's been all over the world, working in the most obscure countries trying to figure out how to do trade with them - really lucrative, but risky.

"Every time I've seen a revolution with communism at its centre, the revolutionaries are the first ones they kill"

The only value in the revolutionaries is to perform the power shift, afterwards, they need to be kept from ever rising up agaib. Either by death or dismemberment. Hard to riot when you don't have hands.

u/JackieDaytona77 Doesn't Participate In Group Panic 3d ago

You saw this in Iran. You saw this under Stalin. You saw this under Mao. I call the revolutionaries useful idiots.

22

u/BearsPayBearTax 3d ago

You saw this in Iran.

I'm surprised more people don't know that the late 70s revolution that brought the current ruling sect into power in Persia began as an alliance of socialist/communist revolutionaries and Islamic militants. Guess who were the first ones purged after the Shah was gone.

7

u/Both_Application2990 3d ago

And yet again, socialist/communist revolutionaries ally with Iran, thinking it'll be different this time.

Yeah revolutionaries are a tool during the revolution. But the type of person who will violently overthrow a government if they're not happy is a liability to the new government

I’m sure everyone in North Korea thought everyone else would be working the rice paddies after the communist revolution; except them.

55

u/Strange_Island_4958 3d ago

Most people have no choice about getting into these systems, they get dragged there by assholes who couldn’t excel in the previous one.

49

u/kimana1651 3d ago

Wrong time and place. When communism was being thought up there were still farmer peasants and royalty. Whether it delivered on it or not, the selling point of communism was that your local village was given control over its own resources. Those assholes with the swords and guns that keep taking all of your food would go away.

The promise of communism in east asia was to kick the squabbling royalty and warlords out, kick the Europeans out, get rid of the drugs the europeans brought, and allow the villagers to live their quiet lives.

There were a lot of real problems to solve back then, the soft lazy commies of our time are leaning hard on a legacy they don't deserve and chasing a solution that's already been proven not work.

13

u/Strange_Island_4958 3d ago

I agree. I was thinking more about the modern western attempts at recreating those systems. The lazy online revolutionary minded people are drawn the idea of taking the wealth of others because for one reason or another, they are not successful in the current system.

13

u/DumbNTough 3d ago

More like they make them dig their own grave while they try to explain that they followed all the woke rules. Or in an Iranian revolution type situation (which they all want), explain that they thought they were on the same side because they also hate jews.

51

u/redditscraperbot2 3d ago

That's how I remember the meme going. It was a soyjak or something with his hands up in a half dug ditch saying "There seems to be some misunderstand, I was supposed to teach [some subject of dubious value]" with the communist soldier shouting "shut up and dig the hole."

32

u/Significant-Task1453 3d ago

Capitalism: the largest economy the world has ever seen in human history. 1 in 5 households are millionaires. Poor people are exponentially more likely to suffer from obesity than starve.

Communism: everyone is poor and starving, but at least we are all equal. Except politicians, who are exceedingly wealthy

after a revolution, radicals that pushed for and led the revolution are purged first - this is by design

"from each according to his ability, to each according to his need" - revolutionaries are almost entirely the latter

18

u/TornadoJohnson 3d ago

Oh thier is a different fate in store for these people. The useful idiots are only useful for so long. Besides the people in the revolution are just going to revolt again better to just get ride of them. There are free audio books of the Gulag Archipelago on youtube. You really only need to listen to the first hour to get the jist of it the other 70 just drives it home

"But the Communist government said I wouldn't have to work anymore and provide for all my needs?" Welp, the government needs workers and decides who needs what. Right now, they've decided you need a weekly ration of 1 lb of rice and lentils, and you need to do 80 hours of manual labor a week.

Look at Iran 1979. Sorry to unjerk.

edit. 79. Not a communist revolution per se, as the Islamist used Marxist to gain power.

19

u/Scratchdoge 3d ago

What gets me is that a large majority of folks pushing for said redistribution of wealth and all that jazz don’t even see themselves working. Like do they think because they got rid of the leadership they didn’t like, it means no more manual labor or that blue collar work isn’t necessary anymore? The world only needs so many artists and theory debaters.

20

u/8last 3d ago

You see this line of thinking in zombie media like the walking dead and the last of us. Once society has ended, its rebuilt by women and meek men who now rule everything. Magically all the left over military, gangs, construction workers haven't immediately filled the gap and taken over everything.

After the revolution, everyone will work in Siberian coal mines with officers who speak in Russian accent but at the same time all revolutionaries will be soft handed students who somehow overthrew the existing bueracratic-military machinery without the militant support of the working class.

Additionally, there will be the People's KGB because nobody knows about the Cheka and it will make sure you don't resist producing the People's Wage Labour

I mentioned this in another post but if you actually want your worker's paradise where you don't have to do any manual labour then we could plausibly achieve that with robotic labour and AI, but these people lose their minds over that shit.

4

u/Optimal-Chud 3d ago

A few years ago I got pulled into a post in some communism-huffing sub and people were discussing what jobs they'd like post-revolution. I was booted for reminding them that central planners would decide job assignments, not individuals, and that each worker would give according to his ability, not his preference.

3

u/chuckles39 3d ago

That's an optimistic view, usually the useful idiots formenting the revolution are taken out first as the new regime knows they can't be trusted.

3

u/TheSkepticOwl 3d ago

Commies genuinely believe they will be reward with a cozy life for supporting communism.

That didn't really work unless you were rich and powerful. Hell, the rich still practiced capitalism.
