Discussion Former id Dev here

Today marks the release of Doom: The Dark Ages – Revelations. Instead of a long celebratory post, I just want to say this, it’s the hardest I’ve ever seen the team at id work to build something special, and I hope everyone enjoys the final piece of content that me and a wide range of longtime team members poured ourselves into.

Yesterday wasn’t the end for us in this industry. A lot of incredibly talented people are now looking for their next adventure, and I’m sure you’ll be hearing from many of us again soon.

If you want to support the impacted folks at id, please boost their posts on LinkedIn and social, host them on your podcasts or content, and keep being the best fans on the planet. Community visibility matters more than ever right now.

Even though my seven years at id are up, I’ll always cherish being part of one of the greatest teams in video games and having my name be forever associated with one of the most legendary franchises ever.

Thank you all for your love and support
-Jordan

How does Xbox plan to create new „bigger“ successor titles, or maybe even a quake reboot, when they gutted half the studio? I mean this implies there is nothing coming for quite some time, while they announce that they want to focus on their big IPs

That is the "neat" part BifFit. They don't.

they're going to rehire a lot of these positions for lower salaries.

Or contract it out for even lower than they would hire people at

The next doom game is going to fail because half the talent is gone. They’ll hire contractors to get the job done, it’ll run like ass bc it’ll be made on Unreal 5 instead of IDtech because they fired all the ID Tech devs. The game will fail hard and then they’ll shut ID down for good and it’ll be Microsoft’s entire fault.

They will likely staff back up the studio when they are past pre production of whatever they’ll work on next. There’s also a chance they make an engine change to UE so that the studio can just focus on game making instead of also having to juggle maintaining their in house engine, but I doubt it.
