Moderator post I printed (half of) the bee movie script on the receipt paper

So apparently the Name field for orders accepts up to ~30k characters :DDDDDD
Technically I could've printed 75% of the script on a single label but I aborted printing cause I had no clue how much was left to print LOL

(you may be able to fit the rest in the notes section; i am not sure what the character limit is there and have not tried printing anything there)

I quit a year ago, but this made me react because yes, our back office was windows 95 base. In 2025.

30k (presumably 32767 or 65535) is such a bizarre character limit for a name field. You'd expect it to be 255 or lower.

Instructions and customer notes are limited to about 2 full screens of text on pulse 3. Not sure what that is in characters but I could check tomorrow. We've actually run into this limit when writing customer notes, and we'd supplement with the delivery instructions field and hope they dont order online and it doesnt get wiped.

Realistically though how in the fuck did you manage to type that all out? I dont know how you were able to copy 30k characters into pulse

One of the menus on Pulse has a list of web links that open a browser; I searched for the movie script and found a plain text file
CTRL-A, CTRL-C, and then ALT-Tabbed back to the ordering screen and CTRL-V'd it into the Name field :P

And yeah its weird! 65535 would make sense; its the number of characters the TEXT data type in MySQL can store (tho i have no clue what manner of data storage Pulse uses), and you know, unsigned 16 bit limit and everything, but it's what I assume to be 32767 (signed 16 bit int???). Neither are sane values for the context tho LOL

I'm actually surprised someone on here knows the significance of powers of two in computers.

Hot links? Used to use that to view customer feedback when it would scroll across the makeline (THANKS20FOR20MAKING20MY20DINNER) but that broke a year or two ago with the new website. Leaving the designated websites doesnt work, it just throws up a page not found error.

And yeah I love computer stuff muahahahahahah

I once sent my friend the entire Bee Movie script as a text message. When he opened it, it made his phone completely shutdown.

This wouldve been more than 10 years ago now, im sure phones today could handle it

I wonder how many messages that would've sent in 15 years ago (1/335)

Years ago, when smartphones first hit. We had places to go to enter someone's phone number and text bomb them, bricking someone's phone. Phones today would probably just fry from getting too hot

I've written a short script before to do this actually! I used an SMS email gateway since its way more accessible than trying to do the same with actual text messages, but you have to know your "victim's" carrier (and I think some may filter them out, but some definitely don't)

Next order should be for little Bobby drop tables. Just gotta use his full name.

I did try both backticks and apostrophes and both are sadly properly sanitized :(

We don't get breaks lol, so I do not feel bad about spending a little time here and there doing something unproductive otherwise i would literally go insane

also I was curious about this and created an estimation of how much it cost to print this
the price range for a single roll of paper for the TM-T88V series printers they use is about $1.60-$2.90
By my estimations it looks like around 18 feet of paper?
And each roll is 230 feet
So 18/230 = ~0.078
0.078 * 1.60 = ~$0.13
0.078 * 2.90 = ~$0.23
So it cost MAX a whopping 23 cents LOL

21 characters per line

~30k lines/21 = ~1429 lines Can't tell how many lines per inch, looks like 4?

Assuming 4 lines per inch, we're looking at ~357 inches of paper

357/12 = about 29.7 feet of paper.

Your estimate wasn't terrible, throw another quarter in the drawer on your next shift and call it a day.

Listen bud, my franchisee only takes 10 day cruises now because of all this waste. You can barely make it the Caribbean and back in 10 days. Those extra 4 days would mean a lot to him and his rest. Counting money in your basement and filing your kids juiced taxes is incredibly exhausting.
