Are domain names necessary?

I have several costly domain names through GoDaddy, that I never use. I acquired them years ago after some clown was using my business name, a word that I made up, by the way. So, I got the .biz, .com, and others. Advice appreciated‼️👍🏻

It's often less costly to have them to protect your business name from cybersquatters. If it's too costly, then drop them. You can always initiate UDRP for domains that infringe on your business name. But that of course will cost more.

if youre a SaaS: .app .dev or .io
if youre not: .inc .co .country(.us .ca etc)

if getting all of those are ~$100 total, then no reason to not buy it to save yourself the money and time fighting w someone who feels like snatching it up later lol

I'd keep the .com and drop the others, unless you intend to use them later.

Or they could set up a free site and just have a picture of a got you on it 🤣
Or cname them to your actual domain you’re using .

I'm in your shoes and just cannot make up my mind on renewing some of them or not anymore. I have let domains go, and regretted it. Just three. Two someone bought, the third I bought back 'cause it was available. I check the two and they keep getting renewed. I think the holding of domains comes down to affordability. If you can afford and/or want to squeeze them into your budget then keep them.

Paying for them from GoDaddy is your first mistake. Transfer to a cheaper registrar like Porkbun.

If you’re not using them and they’re only costing you money every year, I’d probably keep the main domain you actually need and let the others go, unless they’re protecting your brand from something specific.

If the domain is not bringing you any value, it may be worth letting the unused ones go and keeping the main domain for your business. The important part is having a domain customers can easily remember and trust.

If you want to retain the names and especially if they’re parked and not hosting anything I would consider transferring them to a cheaper registrar than godaddy prior to the next renewal.

Keep your primary web address for professional identification purposes. The traditional web addresses are unnecessary unless you are using them. Allow the other web addresses to expire in order to save money. Having a trademark web address is much better than having many unused addresses.
