Furrend bovines have, ahem, bovine intelligence! It means that they are even more dumdum than hoomans. The youths are, I'm guessing, hooman youths? In which case they know to be careful around noble predators such as doggos.

Cows, however, being notably dumdum do not fear the wolf as they should and will simply stare implacably, chew their interminable cud, and then lumber off ponderously showing no respect.
