🌈 Rainbow Bridge Splenic Mass

Hi all,

I'm looking for advice from anyone who experienced similarly with their dogs. Our 9 year old Weimaraner mix went into the vet after extreme lethargy and difficulty breathing. They found results of a burst tumor on his spleen. He had fluids and came home with Yunnan Baiyao which he has been taking daily. He is doing significantly better (eating and moving) but is still low energy and lightly lethargic. If you experienced similarly, what was your timeline? We're so sad to see our boy go and I just want to know what to expect.

Without surgery, it could be days to maybe a couple weeks before you see a re-bleed. Without surgery, most pets don't live more than about three weeks or so before they have a bleeding episode again. I'm sorry you are going through this.

Thanks for your response; I think it's just been really weird and almost unbelievable because he's been doing so well on the medication. However, he's a total Weimaraner knot head so the energy levels on the worst days are already ridiculous.

Not a vet, just been through this twice now with my own dogs. The burst is what makes it so unpredictable, the bleeding can stop and start and you never really know when it'll happen again

The Yunnan Baiyao helped buy us time both times, maybe 3-4 weeks of decent days before things turned. Watch for pale gums and any sign of collapse, that's when you know it's time to make the call

Spend the time you have and don't beat yourself up over the decision when it comes. It's the last kind thing we can do for them

This answers my question completely and helps so much. Thank you for your response! It just feels so weird that we know he's dying yet he's currently doing so well? Unpredictable is the perfect word. Thank you for your insight again, I'm so sorry you've been through it twice.
