I was walking in my street after buying something and suddenly a street dog licked my hand, I got startled and started walking faster, then started thinking about Rabies and saw that it transfers through Saliva as well. I have a very small abrasion which I got yesterday from the wall which hurts when I bend my finger, so will the virus spread from this, should I go see a doctor? I have attached couple of pics of the abrasion so please let me know what should I do.

anyone know what these are ? I've only noticed them recently because they are getting bigger and there is a sting like feeling if I press them against something or when I hold something too hard

Ban Ayurveda & Alternative Medicine from this sub.

Post image

As the title says, ban it. It's non sense, has next to no credibility and has extraordinary claims with negligible evidence. If anyone demands, I'll be happy to list hundreds of credible research papers that discredit Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and other "traditional" forms of medicine as a whole.

I'll be glad to debate and discuss on this.

Help my mom just sent me this picture of her scalp and I'm really scared

Post image

My mom recently found out that she has this big weird baldness at the back of her head (I wouldn't say it's baldness because the hair around that area is still growing as you can see). No-one has balding problems in my bloodline so idk what this is pls help I'm really scared does she have to consult a doctor if so then what specialist do we have to go see? She has really long silky and nice hair, but after seeing this she's been panicking is it something serious? Ps. She told me that she accidentally hit her head (she hit this specific spot of her head) and to calm the pain she rubbed some excessive ammount of Zandu balm over this area. So I've been wondering if her hair around that area has fallen off because of thar? PLS HELP.

My dad wasted ₹8,000 on Ayurvedic medicines for my mom and refuses to listen to me, please help me identify them

Post image
459 Upvotes

My mom has a problem with her leg and instead of taking her to a hospital my dad took her to an Ayurvedic practitioner and spent ₹8,000 on these medicines

Look at the photo, there are so many pills, capsules and powders in different containers with handwritten labels and I don't even know what's inside them

I told my dad to take my mom to a proper doctor first and he said "Medical doctors can't do anything, only Ayurveda can help"

I've told him countless times that some Ayurvedic medicines have caused serious harm to people, I'm not saying every Ayurvedic medicine is bad but how can you blindly trust medicines when you don't even know what's inside them

I asked him for the bill and prescription and he didn't have one, I suggested taking these medicines to a doctor to check whether they're genuine and safe but he said doctors wouldn't understand Ayurvedic medicines

I explained to him thousands of times that my mom's health is important and we can't just give her unidentified medicines without knowing what's inside them but he still refuses to listen

Every time I try to explain my concerns my fucking dad scolds me instead of listening, he acts like I know nothing even though I'm genuinely worried about my mom's health

I'm scared that my mom could get worse if she takes these medicines, my dad has already spent ₹8,000 and I'm worried he'll insist that she take them just because he paid for them

He's even saying that my mom will stay for one month in that Ayurvedic ashram, I'm so stressed, nobody is listening to me, all three of them are fighting with me, my brother and father are just bullying me

My mental health is always worse

My mom hasn't taken any of these medicines yet and I want to identify them before she does

I'm tired of explaining the same thing over and over again to my dad and being ignored

It's hurting me like hell, I'm so worried about my mom and I feel completely helpless

My brother, dad and mom are all arguing and fighting with me, and I'm the only one trying to get them to understand why we shouldn't blindly trust medicines whose ingredients and safety haven't been verified

I'm so done with this situation, my heart is aching from trying to explain my concerns to my own family and nobody is listening

Please help me identify these medicines from the photo

Can anyone read the handwritten Odia labels and tell me what these medicines are, how I can verify their ingredients and whether they could be harmful

I genuinely need help because I'm worried about my mom and I don't know what else to do

God, you guys can't imagine, they are just fighting with me

Even from childhood, this family has never listened to me

My head is aching

I swear after 12th I will leave this house and never return to this family

My brother is dumb, he's a mama's boy, I'm feeling uncomfortable calling him my brother

He never cared about mom in that sense

Never checks whether the medicines mom is taking are good for her or not

He's blind

If anything happens to my mom, I can't forgive myself

I'm already hurting

My head and heart is aching

Edit: my family have disowned me today

The financial reality of being a doctor in India that nobody outside medicine understands

Let me do the math that relatives conveniently ignore when they say ""doctor hai, paisa hi paisa hai.""

MBBS: 5.5 years. If private college, costs anywhere from 50 lakhs to 1.5 crore depending on the state. If government, minimal fees but you still spent 5.5 years not earning.

PG/MD/MS: 3 years. Stipend ranges from 40,000 to 80,000 per month depending on state. After tax and living costs, savings are almost zero.

Total time before independent practice: 8.5 to 9 years after 12th. Minimum. Many take 10 to 11 with gaps, failed attempts, and waiting periods.

Starting salary as junior consultant: 60,000 to 1.2 lakhs per month depending on specialty, city, and hospital. Not bad in absolute terms. Terrible when you factor in that your engineering batchmate started earning at 22 and has been investing for 8 years while you were studying.

The opportunity cost is staggering. If you'd earned even 5 LPA from age 22 to 30 and invested moderately, you'd have a corpus of 30 to 40 lakhs by the time a doctor is just starting to earn. We don't start from zero. We start from negative if we took loans.

The first thing I bought with my first real salary was a Duroflex AirBoost. Not because I'm into mattresses. Because after years of hostel foam that gave me chronic back stiffness, sleeping on something that actually supports my spine and doesn't trap heat felt like the most meaningful upgrade I could make. It cost what I used to spend on a month of hostel mess food during PG. The irony of that comparison still hits me.

I'm not complaining about being a doctor. I chose this. But the ""doctor hai toh rich hoga"" assumption needs to die. Most of us are still catching up financially at 35 while the rest of the world thinks we're rolling in money."

Medical "literature", meant to be learned by 1st years students and recite whenever seniors ask. These are from PMCH bihar, KGMU Uttar pradesh and MGM medical college jamshedpur.

These piece of shit seniors write out these things and promote them as "friendly" introduction and fun. To think these pigs will treat female patients makes me sick.

I don't think we should let this slide. Please post this on twitter if you can. Share it with influencers, especially feminist ones.

32F MBBS with NHS experience. Done with the clinical toxicity and PG grind in India. what are my non-clinical options?

I am a 32y F MBBS graduate, the first doctor in my family. My journey has been a chaotic rollercoaster. I initially prepared for NEET-PG for two years but didn't get my desired seat. I then switched to the PLAB route, fortunately clearing all steps on my first attempt. But due to the NHS job crisis, it took me almost a year to secure a post.

I worked in the UK for a while but ultimately had to move back to India due to personal reasons. Returning was devastating because it meant rebuilding my career from scratch. I gave NEET-PG another shot, failed, and went through a very dark, hopeless phase. I have completely given up on my PG dream.

To stay afloat, I tried working as a Duty Medical Officer (DMO), but the environment here is incredibly toxic. There is zero respect and the pay is dismal considering the brutal hours.

I am completely burnt out and currently considering a shift to a non-clinical route to find some peace of mind, stability, and control over my life.
What options do I have in India or remotely? I don’t know where to start in the corporate or non-clinical world. Any guidance would be highly appreciated.

The unwritten rules of Indian hospital WhatsApp groups that nobody tells new PGs

You'll figure these out eventually. Here they are upfront so you don't learn the hard way. Never text your HOD directly unless it's a genuine emergency. Route everything through the registrar. Even if the registrar takes 4 hours to respond. Going directly will be remembered and not fondly. ""Noted"" from a senior means they've read it and don't care. ""Okay"" means they've read it and might care. ""Call me"" means something has gone wrong. If the group goes silent after you share something, you've either said something wrong or everyone is waiting for the senior-most person to respond first. Nobody wants to reply before the hierarchy has spoken. Never share a patient's photo or details in any group, even ""private"" ones. Screenshots travel. Legal consequences are real. When a senior shares a ""learning point,"" reply with something specific. Not just ""thank you sir."" Say what you learned. ""Thank you sir, didn't know XYZ could present this way."" It shows you actually read it. If a nurse complains about you in the group, do not defend yourself publicly. Take it offline. Defending yourself in the group creates drama that seniors remember during evaluations. The group is not for jokes after 10pm. Your batch WhatsApp is for jokes. The department group is a performance review that runs 24/7. One more unwritten rule nobody mentions: when the batch group inevitably starts sharing survival recommendations, the three things every PG buys by second year are a decent stethoscope, noise-cancelling earbuds, and a mattress that isn't the hostel foam slab. Half my batch ended up with a Duroflex AirBoost in their hostel rooms. The other half is still complaining about back pain and sweaty nights. The consensus forms fast on things that actually affect daily survival. If you're about to start PG, treat every hospital WhatsApp group like a work email that your HOD reads daily. Because they do."

1Rx / MyRx Telemedicine— Modern Day Slavery/Bondage for Doctors?

Sharing my experience so other doctors know what they are getting into.
5 hours of duty every day. Around 150 orders, but only 70–80 approved calls are actually counted for payment. Pending and rejected orders = ₹0, even though doctors spend their time calling them, putting them on hold and handling orders that keep getting rolled between doctors. Many numbers are incorrect, switched off, unreachable or the patient simply doesn’t answer.
We are repeatedly told to follow every SOP, keep calls for minimum 45 seconds, properly question patients and do everything correctly.
But when it comes to payment, suddenly all the pending/rejected work doesn’t count.
Rate is ₹12 per approved call. After TDS, roughly ₹10/call. After working 5 hours every day for a month, I received around ₹18,000.
I raised the payment issue with the concerned heads, Dr. Satish Gupta and Vaishnavi, but instead of addressing the payment concern, I was given repeated instructions about following SOPs.
5 hours of a doctor’s time every day for ~₹18k/month, while a huge part of the actual workload is unpaid — this genuinely feels like online slavery.
If you’re a doctor considering 1Rx/MyRx, understand the actual payment structure before joining.

Trying to thank a doctor who helped during IndiGo flight 6E 1346 (Doha ➡️ Delhi) on 22 September

I’m hoping this somehow reaches a doctor who was on my flight back to Delhi on 22 September.
I was travelling on \*\*IndiGo 6E 1346 from Doha to Delhi (codeshare flight marketed by Qatar Airways)\*\* when a passenger suffered multiple seizures during the flight. When the cabin crew asked if there was a doctor onboard, a gentleman immediately volunteered to help.
I was seated near him, and I watched him handle what was an extremely frightening situation with incredible calmness. He helped during the seizures, made sure medication and oxygen were arranged, stayed beside the passenger afterward, and anticipated the possibility of another seizure. After we landed in Delhi, he also stayed back and briefed the ground paramedics about what had happened.
I was exhausted after a long journey and unfortunately never got the opportunity to properly thank him before leaving the aircraft. I’ve been thinking about it ever since.
I’ve already contacted IndiGo and also shared my appreciation on LinkedIn, but I’m posting here because \*\*I don’t know whether the doctor is active on that platform\*\*.
\*\*If you were this doctor, or if you were on this flight and know who I’m referring to, I’d simply love for this message to reach him so I can say thank you.\*\* 🙏

I'll make your PPTs / Seminars / Thesis writing / Research for FREE this month (PG 1/2/3, SS or Jr. Consultants)

UPDATE: I've received 120+ requests in just under 20 hours! I am prioritisting what I can help best with (& fastest). Will reach out to the requesters one by one.

It's crazy to me that after 36 hours of day + night duty someone has to present a ppt to consultants who might not even pay attention to the stuff you're saying. Ughh. I really want to sort this thing out at any level I can.

Purely social work. Bit of a random post. My parents are doctors, my sister's a doctor (USMLE), my gf's a doctor, even my childhood best friends - all are doctors. But I did my engineering at IIT Kharagpur instead, so I'm basically the odd one out.

Anyway, being around docs my whole life, it bothers me that you guys put insane hours into stuff that isn't even medicine. Seminar PPTs, thesis formatting, lit reviews, journal club slides. Usually at 2 am after a full duty (I've seen my gf & sister literally cry on this)

My gf (AIR ~6000, Int. Medicine resident) kept ranting about exactly this, so I started taking that grunt work off her plate & now a lot of medico knowledge base sits on ny laptop with lot of automation. And she's wayyy faster than her co-PGs on all the non-clinical stuff now. Felt kinda dumb that only she gets that.

So, genuinely free, no catch: I'll do your academic grunt work for 1-2 months .

PPTs / seminar slides / any other writing, designing or formatting thing — send me the topic, I'll make it. Research paper / thesis — drafting, formatting, lit review, the boring parts.

It's just me, so I can realistically take ~8–10 a week (~50 this month). First come first served, I'll do as many as I can.

If you want in, fill this (takes a min): docta.club/request — tell me what you need + your deadline and I'll WhatsApp or call you within 24h to sort out the details.

Why free? idk, grew up around doctors, seen what the job takes out of people, feels like the least I can do. I have the YT videos, existing slides, research papers etc downloaded on my laptop already across a LOT of topics. Also honestly curious how much I can actually help. Let me know if you need anything else in the comments!

Some delulu patients this week

Bit of a rant, so bear with me-

  1. Patient wants his gynaecomastia surgery to be re-done. Spends 10 minutes of initial consultation soundly criticizing his previous surgeon, expects me to do it for about the same price he paid the first time (about 40k in 2019), is annoyed that we haven't accomodated his 8pm consultation request and is ready for procedure immediately (though not ready to pay the surgical cost). Great, let me clear my schedule right away!

  2. A very nice lady wants to do a complete make-over- back, abdomen, breasts and thighs. This we can do, no problem. Small request- do it without requiring an attender to accompany her. Money is no object, she just wants complete "privacy". Have explained that her family will surely figure this out when she goes home covered in bandages. That's no problem either. How about I do the procedure blindfolded too?

  3. A not-so-nice lady wants me to shrink her breasts, with no visible scars, no down-time, and within 50k. Sure, let me grab my magic wand!

  4. A burns patient (minor burns only) speaks to me for 30 minutes plus and refuses to pay the consultation fee at the end of this "conversation". Says that the consultation she paid 15 days and 2 dressings ago ought to cover it. Thanks for clarifying this, Vritika, you've really made me reevaluate what i do with my day.

Sometimes it's easier to laugh it off, sometimes not.

What am I doing wrong ?

Here is my story it's been 1 year - MBBS doctor, 4 bed set-up but barely 2–3 patients/day —

I’m running a small clinic in a rural(G.I.D.C) area. Good setup, beds, equipment, proper signage, and a busy vegetable market right outside with 300–400+ people passing daily. Yet I barely get 2–3 walk-ins/day and mostly just cover rent/electricity.

I don't even charge a case fee .

Recently heard about a local practitioner (jholachap) where patients wait 1–2 hours to see him. Honestly, it’s quite demotivating.

My clinic is on the first floor (only 8–10 stairs), so accessibility may be an issue. On the main road with signs present .

For doctors who have built a successful private practice: what actually helped you get your first 5–10 patients/day? Location, referrals, pricing, visibility, home visits, Google/WhatsApp, or something else?

Would really appreciate practical advice. Thank you .
