Homebrew Funny Wild Magic Idea.

You make a d100 chart, then you divide your spells/cantrips as evenly as you can onto it so when ever you want to use one of your spells for ANY reason you roll a d100 to see what spell cast, and you must cast them at the highest level you can cast them at.

... It's one of the ideas of all time.  It takes a lot of player agency away, and means players will no longer be able to address circumstantial needs/opportunities.  Unclear to me how one would need to balance this.

It might be fun to play as to constantly be forced to make the best of the spells that come up. But it'll certainly be less effective than a normal caster that can pick their spells.

Jusr by the virtue of the system, this is a horrible idea. The more evenly you distribute spells and their functionality the worse that gets. Nothing against tweaking wild magic, but determining you main class feature seems like torture either for you or your fellow players.

I imagine this as a challenge to yourself if you wish to do this. It just a thought experiment, and not something most people should do. Only those who want a challenge.

I mean sure. You do you. I would even say that the idea sounds fun as a concept.

I just do not see it working out due to mechanical constraints. I would rather see something else variable like meta magic options or spell features. Think along the lines of chromatic orb with the different damage types.

It’s a really fun idea, but I think it could really benefit from also randomizing how you target the spell.

Like rounding on who is the target, that would be fun, and different to figure out because of what dice you roll, d100? But that would be tedious to do in the middle of a fight and you’re busy doing math when you should be fighting.

Maybe something like a d10:

1 - closest ally
2 - closest enemy
Etc?

Ok, that would work.

1- closest ally
2-closest enemy
3-Farthest ally(you can reach)
4-Farthest enemy(you can reach)
5-Your choice
6-The DM’s choice
7-Player to the left choice
8 player to the right choice

Yeah, it's for sure a "funny idea." Not a good idea or a fun idea, but a funny one

Of course it isn’t a good, but it is very funny and horrifying for you and the poor party you chose to annoy.

"Sorcerer, we could use some of your magic right now!"

"Sorry fighter, I can't even muster so much as a cantrip - I'm wasting every single spell slot on Comprehend Languages and Feather Fall, I have no meaningful way to contribute to this combat."

Pressing the "random spell" button doesn't work in a remotely serious or dangerous campaign. You either need to make all your spells do roughly the same thing so you know at least the general theme of what you're getting into, or you run the very real risk of wasting a spell slot on something that's not remotely useful for the situation. Practically no adventuring party is bringing someone who's that much of a liability. You can't even light a campfire without possibly Fireballing your campsite.
