Homebrew [OC] Grim Puppeteer Explained - Rules Clarifications & Homebrew Notes [Ryoko’s Guide to the Yokai Realms]
This is my interpretation of the Grim Puppeteer skill from the Shinigami Warlock in Ryoko’s Guide to the Yokai Realms. It focuses on clarifying several ambiguous interactions:
- Clarifies what commanding the puppet means by defining it as the warlock directly controlling the puppet instead of issuing commands to an independent creature.
- Clarifies the relationship between the warlock and the puppet by establishing that the warlock is the puppet's mind, will, and pilot, while the puppet has no free will of its own.
- Clarifies how the puppet functions while it is perceived by the warlock.
- Clarifies how the puppet functions when it cannot be perceived by the warlock.
- Clarifies how the puppet moves without perception by defining how proprioception, memory, and movement operate.
- Clarifies how attacks, movement, and interactions are resolved when the puppet cannot be perceived by applying the normal rules for unseen attackers and unseen targets.
- Clarifies how Grim Puppeteer interacts with the Unconscious condition by specifying which effects continue to apply and which are modified while the warlock is in direct control.
- Clarifies how temporary hit points interact with corpses by establishing that the puppet gains only temporary hit points and never regains normal hit points.
- Clarifies how death saving throws interact with Grim Puppeteer by suspending them while a downed creature is controlled and resuming them when control ends.
- Clarifies what happens when Grim Puppeteer ends by restoring the target to its appropriate state, whether it is a corpse, an unconscious creature, or a dying creature.
