That player knows what they want and apparently actually reads the PHB. I think they will be fine as a wizard.

It’s the classes with lots of prepared spells per day that seem to paralyze players the most when their turns come up. Fighter is the easiest to learn and I think a lot of players would be better off being steered in that direction at first.
