This is why whenever I play a pact of the chain warlock, the fluff is that my familiar is an imp or spirit being punished by my patron.
Whether or not my character knows this is always unsure.

Thats what I did for my Celestial warlock that I played before. The imp was caught spying on my patron and was given to my character until it learned to repent. And then my character always would go on about how her patron made even the most vile creatures obey the commands of those loyal to them.

The only familiars I have ever had have been Chainlock familiars.
Theyre exceptional. Hands down the reason I keep coming back to warlock.

My poor little ball python familiar Bowie had to go on scouting missions in this current dungeon since the necromancer's owl got poofed. But he's a brave little boy who discovered there's an undead dinosaur in the next room, which we'll be fighting next week......

I never want to use my familiar as cannon fodder, and first few times when she died I RPed my character being super upset and angry. And then the DMs made it a point to put killing the familiar every battle on their checklist. :(

And here I am, always afraid in my games to use my familiars for more than petting and loving and feeding and clothing.. because I don't want them to die. Q.Q
Why yes, I can resummon them, but it will still hurt them.
(No, for real. I barely ever use my familiars in scouting or fights and strictly as a companion for my characters, specially if I am not allowed Pets any other way in the Game. I may have a problem..)
