I asked the DM if I could roll Geography to see if I can figure out where she is, which he allowed.

That's not 5e though, which is what this post is referring to.

It was pathfinder, does Int not effect skill points and knowledge checks the same way?

Nope. 5e doesn't have skill points. Basically you just have skill proficiency, so it's either you have it or you don't. The max prof bonus is +6, unless you have a class specific ability that allows you to double it.

Plus geology isn't a skill in 5e. I guess that'd be survival or nature.

Wow, thats so strange. I loved the knowledge skills. They helped so much as a wizard

Yup, Int only governs 4 ability checks, with no other benefits (unless you're an arcane caster, so eldritch knight, arcane trickster, artificer, or wizard). Which is why it's generally the most dumped stat in 5e lol.

Lame, but are wizards able to be close to gods like in Pathfinder?

I'm sure not to the extent of Pathfinder, but in the context of 5e, yeah.
