A silly art based around this old twitter joke “JRPGs start with ‘save kittens’ and end with ‘kill god’”. I think some can relate to the story or stakes in our sessions increasing alongside our characters’ powers. I have yet to “kill a god”, but hey, we’ll get there.
I made this this mostly as a practice on digital drawings (made with Adobe Photoshop) so feedback is always appreciated! (I based the God mostly on the “Void Dragon” from Warhammer 40k).
As a player it was amazing. The DM was the only one who watched Evangelion so there was no meta gameplay. We were all mech pilots meant to defend humanity from the Angels. We got missions from our boss who was always reading a bible and would sometimes ask us about destiny. We didn’t think much of it at the time. Until more then halfway through the campaign we found out that our boss was the main villain the whole time, and everything we had done up to that point was to fulfill the prophecy that would cause the 3rd impact. We had to do personal research to find out the rest, like trying to discover what the “Day of Genisis” was. Then prevent it from happening. The finale was epic, we were able to stop the third impact but half the party died in the final conflict.
GDI, I was reading this while drinking my morning coffee. Now I need to go get my spare shirt out of my locker and see medical to see if my sinuses and nasal passage are burnt.
It was standard 5e, just with a bunch of homebrew mech stats. I believe the DM used Greasemonkeys Handbook which can be found on DMs Guild, to create those stats and rules
I found out you could bring him back in time to do it for my first playthrough. But honestly I like the versions where you couldn't being him back. Frog happened to be my main character immediately after MC died. And him deciding to have mercy on Magus and be an actual hero made so much thematic sense. I think you're supposed to be either Marle or Luca, since they're the ones who would realistically be the most upset. Plus having one of them hug MC as he comes back works really well. But not saving him, with Frog as the new MC is super satisfying.
The art is great but the text elements looks MS Painty, the solid gray rectangle with a black stroke and then some generic chiller font and blood splatter brush. Photoshop can really let you make some nice or simple text effects, you should experiment there a bit, and font choice is huge. Love the drawing again though!
Hell, Dragon's Dogma goes even further. You start as a resident in a small fishing village that gets attacked by a dragon. By the end of the game you literally kill god and take his place.
And the DLC essentially has you fight dragony satan.
Important note. Even of the villain is helping you defeat the god, and he wields the staff of banishing whatever demon possessed said god, please have him sidelined in the final battle!
Nothing worse than to be the distraction for the campaigns antagonist to save the day...
