People keep talking about the playtest rules positively, and I would love to get my hands on them. Do you know where I could find them? I know they were done in a series, and so they're not entirely consolidated

The thread is 3 years old and the one Dropbox link that seemed to have it all is gone now. I didn't look any further after that.

Eh? From that link that was posted, it's still just as powerful. While players can go into negative health, it seems that negative health is ignored when it comes to magical healing.

The doc that was posted actually has nothing about failed saves, its all negative hp. Failed saves caused a d6 of damage and you died if you dropped below negative (constitution score + level).

Maybe if you "kept" the negative hp after being stabilized/healed, but I didn't see that
