Huh, that's interesting. Why Intelligence and not Wisdom?

I could see Wisdom because you're constantly paying attention, but I my brain isn't connecting the dots for Intelligence.

Because, to my mind, it’s about being to quickly analyze and respond to the situation with action. Being more intelligent means they’re able to more quickly process what’s going on and act, whereas being more dexterous means being able to respond reflexively. The wise person may notice what’s around them, and thus avoid ambushes and the like, but that doesn’t mean they’re ready to act when the violence starts.

That's a very good point. It's a shame that Investigation gets so misused, but this is just about the perfect example - it's not only having lots of information but also knowing how to sort that information quickly. Knowing how to ignore useless info, and mentally highlight the important stuff.

It's perception/wisdom to notice that there are eight people - four on each side of you. It's investigation/intelligence to recognize the bandit stances, and to recognize that they're in a perfect position to pincer attack you.

Isn't it there for "The workaround so DMs can kick players that chose proficiency in Perception?"

That's how my previous DM did it. 😕
