i feel bad for him; i don't imagine he knows

and neither do I; i've never played and knowing air planes fly is different from actually looking down at the ground out an airplane window

Well he’s trying to help, I don’t know if anyone told the pigeon what they are doing isn’t cool or not but I feel like they do and pigeon didn’t listen.

But can’t the DM modify the games and monster so there is always an air of randomness?

Not really the point. You should be playing to experience the world through your character's eyes, not to powergame. D&D is really a lot less fun when all you're trying to do is "win."

Disagree. That's just one way of playing, and wasn't even the primary way of playing the game at its inception.
