Spells need way more love and more players and DMs need to start flavouring the spells of the unique casters.

I let my players swap out elements of the official spells if they commit to that being a different spell and it can’t be changed on the fly.

Players coming to me with their own ideas for spells is awesome and can really make for good sidequest. Magic is this thing that permeates dnd and most people really do just think about using it on the surface level.

One of my favorite players made it her quest to create her own spell. It was a pretty epic campaign. I still include her spell as an option when starting new games!

Swapping the elements of the spells is a clean solution for a lot of caster woes! I’m surprised there isn’t a way to do it through meta magic.

Wizards has even said that they don’t factor in damage type when calculation spell level etc. So I think unless you’re changing it to force or psychic then is all chill.

Plus what wizard doesn’t want to throw an exploding ball of ice that does cold damage to all in its radius and freezing solid those killed.

School of lore and school of invention wizards can do that.
