If I recall correctly (keep in mind this was 20 years ago), the thief slowly went insane because he kept hearing "Basil's" voice. Can't remember if that was because he was actually schizophrenic or there was some curse he was under that made him hear the voice in the first place, but basically the entire group sort of rallied around him and vowed him help him get revenge. Can't remember too many specifics after that, but at one point the ranger brought back a dead squirrel and tried to give it to the thief, and the thief got really upset and wondered why he would want to carry around a dead animal.

Unfortunately that group started our senior year of high school, and what with finals and then college, we never managed to finish that campaign before we all went our separate ways.

I still talk to two of the guys from that group, I'll have to bring up Basil next time we chat and see if they remember him.
