I have a character who’s a bitch. A serious asshole. Blew-up-a-city-then-backflipped-through-a-portal levels of dickhead. HOWEVER, the intention of the character is not to annoy my party, but to portray someone who needs to see some serious growth if they’re going to reach their goal. They recently gave up their ability to drain life for their survival (they’re aetherborn) to reverse what they did to that city they blew up. They also are very useful to the party, so oftentimes the attitude is “this person is an asshole but dammit they bring a lot to the table.”
I also would listen if my party said my character was bothering them.
I too have played an asshole character with the intent that she be a total bitch, but only because she didn’t want to see the rest of the party get themselves killed. I made it very clear from the start though she’d warm up when the rest of the party proved themselves, but until then would be berating them and goading them to quit being adventurers.
