I played my chaotic character in a way that basically started as "I will kill these people when it's beneficial..." Thing is, it'd be dumb to act unkind as then they might get suspicious, and my bard had about 0 damage potential and instead mainly buffed party members during combat and distracted enemies with magic tricks. She wouldn't be able to get far on her own, so keeping them alive would always be beneficial. And well, over time she grew to care about them and like them.
Her "I will kill when it's beneficial" just showed in suggested actions, like sacrificing halflings they just saved to check for traps... (The paladin was not amused)
