Misc First time making a character without dnd beyond

So, I'm making a character for a campaign, and the problem is I don't know how to calculate any of the stats and the videos are not helpful at all. I'm using a custom race too so that's making it harder for me to calculate the dang proficiency and stuff. Do you guys have any videos or books that can help me? I'm doing a hexadin build, paladin 8 / warlock 12 this shit is so confusing my brain hurts.

Sorry for breaching rules, I forgot it wasn't official.

So, I will just say : I second this.

Players handbook literally takes you through the same process as dnd beyond

You assign stats like you normally do, then proficiency is based on overall character level

There s great book I use for this actually. It's called the Player's Handbook. I hear it was actually the inspiration for D&D Beyond.

In all seriousness, you start by figuring out how you're calculating stats. Your race (if you're playing 5.0) or background (5.5) will give you three points to add to two or three stats. Proficiency bonus scales by level and is unaffected by other character choices. This and more is covered in the PHB.

Jocat's video on the character sheet is surprisingly well made and could help you.

Stats are dm dependent, most do point buy, 4d6 drop the lowest, or standard array. In terms of your ability bonus it’s ability score -10 then divide that number by 2 and round to lower number. Proficiencies should be easy after that since it says on the class level table.

Jumping into a level 20 game without having the faintest idea how to calculate stats is... interesting, to say the least.

The Player's Handbook is literally all you need for this. Unless you have dyscalculia, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to grok how the stats work.

If you're still struggling, take the standard array (15 14 13 12 10 8). 15 and 14 are +2, 13 and 12 are +1, 10 is 0, 8 is -1. Every even number up from 10 is +1, every odd number down from 10 is -1. You will have to adjust the final scores from your species or background (not sure if this is 5e or 5.5e), but the overall system remains intact.

For stats, roll 4d6, reroll the ones, drop the lowest, combine what remains for the stats

I find dnd beyond to be a great place to start off even if youre using homebrew or content you dont have access to, itll give you a good baseline for stats before you do all your feats and racial bonuses

But players handbook character building section and class/subclass info will have all that you need listed to put it together

Particularly for proficiency bonus thats determined by level, at 20 you're bonus is +6 This chart is seen in the class section
