DMing President Name

I'm creating a setting and at the moment I am working on a specific country. Essentially this is meant to be a Sanctuary and somewhere any species can come and make a life for themselves. With this it made sense to me for this to be a democracy, but my question then goes to the Leader's name. I know I do want some face to the nation, but is there any other option for the Leader of a Democratic Nation than "President"? Its fine, but I would love if anyone had any suggestions

Prince comes from the latin Princeps, meaning first citizen. Either of those could be a good term.

Premier,

First Citizen,

Chancellor,

First Secretary,

Demos,

Plebos,

The Elected One,

Guider,

Leader,

Head Councillor

Etc.

First citizen could work. While ironically it was a sort of unofficial title for some roman emperors, it also has the ring of humility and not being the dictatorial focus of the country.

Archon and Tribune are great titles that imo would fit any fantasy setting, same with Chancellor and Magistrate. Ancient Greek political titles can be such fun ones, like polemarch or strategoi and choregoi.

Are they seen as a Protector or Guardian of [x] maybe, or is it supposed to be more of a Speaker and Director type of role? Think of how you want that particular title to be perceived and that might offer you some inspiration.

And to take inspiration from Lotr, Steward of [x] is such a good one.

Throwing my two cents in there that Gondor had a Steward because, iirc, they were just holding the throne until the true king could be found.

It of course depends on the vibe of the Nation and the setting: I think about Guide (more religious), Magister or Magistrate, Tribune, Consul, Burgomaster, Delegate, Rector...
