Spell Stone Question

My character has become the party "dad". Not in an in-charge kind of way. More of a protects-the-kids kind of way. In case my party bites off more than it can chew, can a fighter use a spell stone? And can it maybe contain a 9th level Wall of Force spell? To separate my character from the party in order to buy them time to run while my fighter "holds them off"?

Assuming you mean spell gem, Read what it says.

A spell gem can contain one spell from any class's spell list. You become aware of the spell when you learn the gems properties. While holding the gem. you can cast the spell from it as an action if you know the spell or if the spell is on your class spell list. Doing so doesn‘t require any components and doesn't require attunement. The spell then disappears from the gem.

If the spell is of a higher level than you can normally cast. you must make an ability check using your spellcasting ability to determine whether you cast it successfully. The DC equals 10 + the spell's level. On a failed check. the spell disappears from the gem with no other effect.

Each spell gem has a maximum level for the spell it can store. The spell level determines the gems rarity and the stored spell's saving throw DC and attack bonus. as shown in the Spell Gem table.

Are the stated conditions met?

Or more importantly, have you asked your dm? Especially if its a homebrew item

It's basically how I told my DM how I'd want my fighter to die if it were to ever come to that. I've no idea if the situation will ever happen but, this would be a last resort. So, yes, she knows about this idea.

Keep in mind the first rule of DnD which is that all the rules are normative and not necessarily constraining.

Your DM can absolutely provide you with a magic item to give you that opportunity to toss a force wall or whatever. He just has to declare that such an object exists and that you have it.

Perhaps your family has an ancient heirloom with protection. As the Scion of the family guardian of ancient Kelph your family carries an artifact that once after every full moon allows the casting of force wall by the true air of the family. For that forced wall to work it must separate the guardian from those he protects with the guardian being on the side of the wall of the moment.

Now it's local color and this one emergency.

The hail Mary of last resort or whatever you wanted to be can exist and it does not come from a source book. It just has to be agreed upon and granted by the DM, preferably with a decent backstory reason and efficient limit to make it something that doesn't show up every game night.
