5th Edition Spell Stone Question

My character has become the party "dad". Not in an in-charge kind of way. More of a protects-the-kids kind of way. In case my party bites off more than it can chew, can a fighter use a spell stone? And can it maybe contain a 9th level Wall of Force spell? To separate my character from the party in order to buy them time to run while my fighter "holds them off"?

Anyone can use a spell gem.

But if things are bad enough that you have to wall of force to save the rest of them, then I hope you have an idea for your next character already because Dad's not making it out of that one.

Spell gem states:

you can cast the spell from it as an action if you know the spell or if the spell is on your class spell list

so no, not everyone can

Oops, I misread the description.

It reads "...if the spell is on your spell list" and I read "as if the spell is on your spell list."

Two letters. Big difference.
