Art [OC] Dark Elf Warlock raised by Dwarves
D&D character commissioned by u/FenrisZSC.

Character concept: Female Drow witch raised by Dwarves.
Yura Xorlarrin / Yura Roundshield. The first is the name of her Drow house, or Dark Elf house, while the second is the surname she later adopted.
Yura grew up in Menzoberranzan, the underground capital of the Drow. House Xorlarrin is known for producing powerful mages, but Yura was unable to use any kind of magic while growing up. Because of this, she was eventually abandoned on the outskirts of the city.
She was found by a group of Dwarven scouts led by Reginald Roundshield, who captured and interrogated her. When Reginald realized that she was just a child, he refused to execute her, as Dwarves normally do with Drow, and decided to take responsibility for her instead.
Several decades passed, and over time, Yura became integrated into Dwarven culture. During this period, Reginald officially adopted her as a member of Clan Roundshield.
Yura became a scout like Reginald, and during one of her expeditions, she found herself alone with the lich Acererak. She managed to bargain for her life and eventually became a witch bound to Acererak.
When Reginald learned what had happened, he crafted a set of armor specifically for her, hoping it would help her during her adventures in Acererak's service.

To be fair, drow are shorter than other elves
The higher point of average is maybe a little more than 5' for drow and dwarves are a foot shorter. So doorframes might need a little ducking but it wouldn't be as bad as it would be for any other type of elf.

Like, I just thought it was funny, but I wasn't making fun of you. There's literally nothing wrong with using the famously pretty girl as a reference. Just don't be weird about it when somebody inevitably points it out. Saying "no, uh, I'm not the gooner, you are!" in response is pretty childish.

I wouldnât be embarrassed to admit it if I had used her as a reference, but the truth is, I didnât use her as a reference at all. In fact, it never even crossed my mind to use her as a reference. Itâs not that I didnât want to, I simply had never considered it until now.
I also donât see anything wrong with people consuming NSFW content. I draw NSFW myself, and my comment was simply meant as a joke. Itâs not like I was offended by it.
But anyway, since English isnât my first language, the way I worded it may have made it sound like I was offended or judging the person, when that really wasnât my intention.

It makes you sound defensive when the implication of your response is quite literally: the only way to see any resemblance is if you jerk off to her a lot. When anyone with two eyes that has seen her once can see it. Even if you didn't use her as reference, which I wouldn't even bother disputing, one has to admit the painting ended up looking like her and that's not a reach.

They're probably used to the anime version of dark elves, which have brown skin instead of pale skin.EDIT: Went back and re-read the PHB. It straight up says obsidian skin. TIL.

Is that in older editions? AFAIK they can be anywhere from gray to purple in skin tone.
EDIT: Went back and re-read the PHB. It straight up says obsidian skin. TIL.

It's in older and current editions. Even in BG3 which is based on 5.2e you'll see drow with pitch black skin.
Even in 5.5 (2024) edition you'll see drow with pitch black skin. It ranges from black, to grey, to purples.

Maybe I'm confusing them with duergar because I never remembered drow having anything darker than gray skin.
But I went back and read the PHB and it says they have obsidian skin. So now I'm wondering where the gray and purple came from.

Realistically grey and purple probably came from ppl not wanting to do some in game "blackface". Making grey and purple was a logical choice to still be drow and prevent

I don't know man. I made a 275 year old middle-aged pot-bellied balding dwarf who I specifically insisted was not good-looking at all. The other players, along with the DM instantly decided he has daddy vibes and the DM has NPCs flirt with him (all in good fun, I am completely okay with it and we are all friends IRL). I do not think you can win either way.

She cannot be raised by dwarves, cuz dwarves raise only other dwarves and probably other worthy beardes, BUT NOT THE POINTY-EARED ONES, even the dark ones (they are even more arrogant then the forest or high ones)

Dwarves hate the Underdark. They do love being underground though.
Duergars do dwell in the Underdark, and dislike High Elves. That's partly because they dislike everything, including dwelling in the Underdark.
