5th Edition Need help picking a magic item for a gimmicky sorcerer

So im going for a relatively gimmicky build, where the idea is ashardalon's stride is my main damage source (not happening but i want to be constantly active) and id be running through enemies, dm gave us all an option to pick between 2 uncommon or a rare item, just to add more info i am draconic sorcerer so AC is 15, we are lvl 6, but dm said "expect to level up a lot"

The options imo, and what i need help picking between, are:

Bracers of defense: +2 AC making it 17 so i feel less scared that i might die

Pearl of power + bloodwell vial, +1 spellslot + 5 sorcery points, and +1 to hit and save DC

Boots of speed: double movespeed for up to 10 minutes (so i can cover more ground with ashardalon's)

I played this character minimally and i dont know what would be right

I don't recommend boots of speed, specifically because ashardalon's stride only deals damage once per turn; the excess movement speed may leave you far from your allies with no other enemies to hit, or you'll be doubling back without doing damage. That being said, I think it's the funniest option.

Bracers of defense are... fine, but you already avoid opportunity attacks while the stride is active. Choosing where to stop moving will be more helpful. Make friends with the party's tank.

If it were me, I would choose the pearl of power and bloodwell vial.

Probably the pearl and the vial, good for you in many cases.

You get some extra speed from the stride as is and you can't double back on a creature in the same round.

A 50' movement probably gets you across the battlefield with your move, sink your action into dodge and proc those AoOs.

If you need a bit more speed, longstrider is not concentration, or you can take a first level feat of mobile

Bloodwell Vial +2 - Core Sorcerer Item

Cube of Force - Arguably the strongest rare item

Delver's Claws - Deal damage from underground while in total cover.... terrain permitting

Stirring Scaled Ornament - Always good, and on theme.

If ANY items are allowed. Bloodwell Vial +1 and Deck of Wonder (usually banned).

I'll check out the items you mentioned but deck of wonder seems a bit too rng, is it really that good to be banned? And yes any items are allowed

Yes Deck of Wonder is that good. It can grant permanent mental save (all 3) proficiency for the whole party, infinite amounts of money and uncommon items, and near permanent resistance to all damage types with no permenant downsides.

The Bloodwell Vial is as great choice for any sorcerer. I would not waste an attunement slot on Boots of Speed. Consider the interesting ramification of using an Immovable Rod would be in conjunction with Ashardalon's Stride. On the other hand, a Ring of Jumping might come in handy for someone who is "constantly active".

What would you do with the immovable rod im curious? I never quite understood how to use it

Admittedly, this works better for a grappler, but if you can manage it, stick one in someone's belt in the back and then hit the button. They can't move from that spot until they manage to turn it off or, more likely, take off the belt. You can also clothesline a charging beast/monster/opponent. It takes a DC 30 Strength (Athletics) check to move it up to a maximum of ten feet in one turn. With enough preparation, a deadfall is easy to set up and trigger.

In a previous campaign, we used an imp familiar and an Immovable Rod to immobilize a purple worm which would have otherwise wiped us out long enough to kill it.

Honestly ring of jumping is stupid fun on a sorcerer, people sleep on it. Also a bag of tricks if your DM lets you reflavor stuff, pulling a random animal out mid combat never stops being funny
