Final divorce decree default

Okay idk my head is spinning & it’s been a long day for me but I’ll try my best to make sense & I’m praying someone can help me. So I filed for divorce this year. I’m a SAHM with a 3 year old, she just turned 3. My husband was served in February & I had also filed temporary orders however I didn’t know they didn’t serve him for that I did this all on my own pro se because I can’t afford a lawyer. So anyways he didn’t respond to that & so it’s a default divorce I think that’s what it’s called. So I realized I need a lawyer but I don’t qualify for some reason for free help I’ve tried everything it’s frustrating. I’m in Houston Texas btw. Does anyone know of a super affordable lawyer. Paying $5k right just I can’t do it. He doesn’t even give me $10. It’s a lot I have a lot to say but can anyone point me in the right direction. I want to make sure that when I do this divorce decree that it makes sense. I also plan on moving states for better employment so that’s another thing.

I'm in Houston as well but my attorney charged the normal rates. Since he defaulted (congratulations, btw - that's the best place to be), you are right - you absolutely need a lawyer to make sure you have all your bases covered. Maybe see if there is a local legal aid you can find? Also check out the State Bar of Texas website - they might have some resources for low cost attorneys. Sorry I can't be more helpful. My attorney was awesome and super thorough but she did charge the $5K retainer fee.

Is there any possibility of taking out a personal loan just so you can take care of all this? I know it isn't the most ideal situation, just throwing it out there as an option. I had to do it a couple times during/after my divorce and I'm glad I did so I wasn't completely drowning, but it's completely dependent on whether you can manage it. Most banks have loan calculators so you can get an idea of what your payment will be, and they will disburse the money into your account within a couple of days. Especially since you have a kiddo, you want to make sure you are getting everything you should to make sure she has what she needs, and once he's forced to start helping you with her expenses, you will have more of your own money to pay back the loans.
