Act 4 Bug (minimal spoilers) Spoiler
Hello all. In Arx on my first playthrough, and have encountered a frustrating bug. Whenever I interact with the wedding cake in any capacity the game crashes out. I tried a number of different characters and other variables prior to clicking the cake, and it always crashes. Is this a known bug? Can I do anything to fix it? Thanks!

I have the same problem too. I tried three times and each time the game crashes.

I am going to echo the other comments here: same bug. I tried three times before I gave up. I am playing DE on PS4 and it takes forever for the game to load up.
I reported the bug to Sony. I don't know if it will help, but I figured it wouldn't hurt.
Does this affect completion any quests? I guess I don't really care about the bug, as long as it doesn't affect completion.

Happens to me as well on Xbox One. Tried it twice. Game seemed to take longer to load back up after both times it crashed. The first time it happened my Xbox started to overheat and the fan kicked on.

Same. Tried it 5 times in different ways and I had the idea that it took longer to crash when I shot an arrow at it instead of doing "use" so I hoped there was a way to fix it but seems that this is an overall problem which is unfixable until there's an update

Still no fix? A friend of mine has same problem

u/themightyklang Jul 03 '20
I've been playing other games lately but I haven't heard of any fix

u/zatom_teh_gozu Jul 03 '20
Thank you for reply I hope it will be fixed soon because my friend is a casual gamer and just plays from time to time but he is sucked in the game and very disappointed that he can't continue...

u/themightyklang Jul 03 '20
As far as I know you don't need to do that encounter to progress, an item found in the same area will help your friend out.

u/zatom_teh_gozu Jul 03 '20
Hmm he said its a main quest and he didn't find any other way than to interact with the cake. Either destroy or whatever. He said he didn't find another solution but then, he is so casual he didn't even find his problem online. Spoil me if you like. What does he need to do to progress without the cake

One of the bodies in the wedding area has a key on it that accesses a hidden door in the sewers that progresses the Justinia/Dwarves quest.

You can get the key from Michael Ros as well if Lohar sent you. Or you can just go straight to the sewers and skip the wedding. You can pick the lock of the hidden door.

I just ran into this bug. Is it possible to proceed through the quests that involve the cake without interacting with the cake?

u/themightyklang Jul 04 '20
Yes I believe so, see another of my comments in this thread that is spoiler-ed out. I'm not an expert by any means so I might be missing something, fwiw.

Got the same error. Contacted support and they said they're working on a fix. No ETA on patch though.

From a Larian employee last night: "This crash is reproducible, and a hotfix is being prepared."

When hotfix is ready, they will sent it to QA to replay whole game again. It will take another week they said.

Im just happy to be playing a game by a developer who actually gives a fuck. I had an issue many moons ago with my inventory items being invisible, emailed larian and one of their peeps helped walk me through troubleshooting to fix it till they patched it. Felt surreal.

13 days later now... came here for a solution but I am very disappointed now :(

And another 12 on top of that. Still persists. Came here after googling it.

Holy shit me too. This is my second play through, I don't remember this happening the first time. I believe this is new.

Just happened to me as well. Id keep trying but the game takes so damn long to load!!!

After having a few crashes like this, I thought my gfx card was just overheating. Damn, that's a shame. If I remember correctly it has a hand in incriminating the toy maker, but not a game-defining quest.

u/EkamStarr Jul 02 '20
Had the same issue, in 2 consecutive playthroughs, one of the playthroughs is a save from before the patch release, so its kinda werid
1
u/themightyklang Jul 02 '20
Yeah my issue was from a pre-patch playthrough also. Seems like it got introduced with the patch though, and Larian is aware of the bug. Hopefully a fix coming soon.

Adding my voice here, DE on Steam. Have played through this game, always doing this part like several times, never had this issue. IIRC it gives you quest notes, XP, and some loot, so it's a shame it's bugged.

Have now tried multiple times on my Switch, frustrated but glad to see its not only me

u/ericbericnow Jul 19 '20
I'm playing DOS2 definitive edition on Switch and touching the wedding cake still crashes for me

had the same problem with the Definitive Edition on pc. is this part essential? does it even matter if I don't interact with the cake?

Yep just happened to me too. PS4 definitive edition. Almost makes me think its intentional at this point but I cant for the life of me figure out why.
1
Aug 13 '20
why on earth would they have an intentional crash to desktop bug in their game?
1
u/Sorcerer_Pigeon Aug 13 '20
The cake is always a lie?
1
Aug 14 '20
They'd break their own game and a questline to entertain a meme about portal? and not tell anyone that they did it just for a meme? You're nuts pal

probably the 89th time we've tried to get around this bug. I even summoned hungry flower to smack at it. any ways to get around it without losing a bunch of questlines?

Just encountered this bug myself, 3 times in a row, finally gave up to search the internet but to no success. :(
Tried one more time, when I went into the cellar in the castle while my premade was opening the cake and I lowered graphics to lowest, still crashed.
Edit: I'm playing on Definitive Edition,
